Is this the proper replacement for a 55 Catalina door mirror? I see plenty of generic replacements, mostly listed for Chevy, but the mirror appears to mount on the door trim on the 55, so dont want a mismatch. The holes are already there for the mirror, so Im assuming my car had one at one time.
Thanks https://www.pontiacparts.net/product...955-starchief/

Not sure those are correct but if you google "1955 Pontiac Catalina images" you can look at lots of cars to see what the mirrors look like and where the mirrors are located .

Yes. I see the problem after looking at some images myself. I see the company that is selling the ones you posted has another style for the '55 Pontiacs so what you posted may be correct for your car. Looking at the pic of your cars door, I can't tell if there two large holes and one small one or just two large holes. Maybe call the company offering those and see if they will give you measurements for the length of the base and the distance between the two holes?

Heres a better picture.
Thanks for the ideas Passenger side has no holes, so this car came with only a drivers side mirror

You might try the Pontiac Chieftan page on Facebook. I have been a member for quite a few years now. If Charles Leonard Coker can't answer your question, no one can!

Based on your photo, it looks to me that this would be more like what you would want, although it says "55 Chieftain". https://www.pontiacparts.net/product...tain-1956-all/.
Call California Pontiac Restoration (CPR) and ask them about the mirror. They can be quite helpful, and they know Pontiacs. Here is link to what Ames is showing and it looks like the one CPR has. I don't think you will find a replacement that is just like original. Regarding Facebook, I hate Facebook too but found it necessary to join groups. I don't use Facebook directly, only by asking/answering questions in the groups. But for the most knowledgeable Pontiac "experts", I think there is none better than what you'll find in this forum. I value it more than any of the Facebook groups. The Facebook groups can get quite social, yaking about non-technical stuff I don't' care about. Here's a little about a couple of the Facebook groups I participate in and know about: The Pontiac Chieftain Club. Charles Coker created the group and is the moderator. I've known Charles for years and he is a good friend. He is the POCI 1953 Technical Advisor. He knows the inline flathead (pre 55) era cars well but not so much the later years. This group can get quite social and more about the flathead years. 1955 1956 Pontiac. In my opinion, this is the group you should join and ask about the mirror. There are very knowledgeable people in the group that know about 55 originality. Rich Gabrielson watches the group and will probably post info. He restored a 55 Safari and it was an award winner at the recent POCI National Convention. I also participate in a 1957 Pontiac Facebook group and a 1955-58 Custom Safari Facebook group. Those aren't relevant to your question. |
