I have just removed all of my carpet, jute and sound deadner from my 65 GTO and scraped all the old black "goop" from around the body junctions and door jambs. Does anyone know what thye of material this tar like substance is and how easy is it to get?

I use seam sealer, it comes in tubes like caulking. 3M is a good product, but hard to find the black. They have tan & I believe white.
I recently found some Canadian brand in black.
The good stuff won't completely harden & stays pliable for years to come.
Most auto body/paint suppliers will have it.
PY might as well, I know Paddock does (sorry Chris).

I have been using urethane seam sealers by 3M and ???? that are available at body supply shops. Stuff is paintable, stays pliable forever which is a definate advantage over the old seam sealer that dries out, cracks and lets moisture in. I had all the old sealer removed from my 68 Bird and replaced urethane sealer. I think it's the same stuff they put windshields in with except it's paintable.
