I just pour it into a glass jar and use a cheap paint brush and brush it on. I let it sit on the car until I am ready to primer it and then I wash the car with soap and water just before I spray the primer.

I just used some OSPHO to treat rust on a section of frame I am going to paint. I used a coffee can to hold the acid (OSPHO is phosphoric) and a cheap brush. I wore the chepaest plastic gloves imaginable. Not surgical, not dishwasher, not even latex. I buy them at the Dollar Store in bags of like 100, and they are made of a real thin material. Just keep some water nearby, and if you happen to get a drop of acid on you, rinse it. In my experience, a little phosphoric on the skin isn't that bad. Wear eye protection, though, of course!
Now, muriatic acid, that is a lot more dangerous...
