Ok, this is getting a little out of hand.
There are two of the same cars (blue/white sd auto's) in Hemmings for 55k, and 65k that are probley more correct then this car.
91,100 and he still has not made reserve? Whats the deal?
My guess is that it gets pulled before it ends due to inside bidding.

Brewster:

No offense to the seller, but the E-bay car is so wrong in almost every detail that it shouldn't be bringing those kinds of dollars.

Wrong interior color
Gloss black everything
Hardware store fasteners everywhere
No TCS switch
Wrong interior upper 1/4 trim (no coat hooks)
Wrong carpet style
E brake cable trapped between the driveshaft and exhaust
Wrong package tray
Wrong color stripes on the driveshaft
Etc, etc, etc.

All of the comments and questions in the auction gloat and fawn all over the car like it's a 100 point show car. This car wouldn't even make it into stock class at the Nationals.

I don't get it. Seems fixed to me.

Morning Bob, We have to find you some longer arms.

Maybe the biddings is so high because some corvette fans want those tires?
Are you going to run that car to find out what she does this summer?
Enjoy your day and watch out for that Flu bug, shes a mean one.

Maybe it just looks wrong because the rear axle is hanging. I think it is correct now that you mention it. Feel free to take that one off of my list.

And the biggest bummer... it's missing the vinyl top that it apparently originally came with

Brewster, go in and 'edit' your post.
It won't change the number.
Put "455 SD power Rules!"

Zipbar, I wonder why did he paint it blue when it's originally red?

Hard for me to put my finger on it, but I'm leaning with Bob on this one. 9 bidders willing to pay over $80k for this car seems awful fishy to me. I'm all for the value of my car going up, but until I see a couple more 74 autos go for this kind of money, I won't believe it.

Cool $94K No Sale?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=320076813335

An ebay auction like this always generates some interest along with some controversy. Was it a real auction? Did nine bidders offer to pay over $80K for this car? Will we see this car for sale again?

I tend to be a skeptic in general. This one has my skepticism running high. I doubt we are seeing real bids from real buyers here. It looks too much like the old scheme of using ebay to create a false market value.

With ebay's policy of hiding bidder's identities, it is now even more difficult to expose this practice.

All buyers must beware. What you see on ebay should not be taken too seriously.

The previous posts could be spot on.

This auction was quite possibly a fraud. The seller could be manipulating the auction in the hopes to receive an "off-Ebay" offer for some high $ figure.

However, this also could be a real one. In seeing all of the rust bucket, piles of junk SD's that have been selling for $28,000-$45,000, it's also possible auctions like this real. If a true SD car in need of a total frame off sells for $35,000, is it so hard to believe that one as nice as the Ebay item might be worth $80,000+? Something to think about.

I'm also trying to be open-minded when I look at these SD cars. First, I am still learning all of the details that makes SD's unique (I have owned mine for less than a year), as well as things that pertain to '74 year models only. Like, for instance, placement of the e-brake cable or where the hoses should be stamped.

I used to be just the opposite back when I was 100% into LS6 Chevelles. A car that did not have correct lug nuts, or the correct "cowl induction" air cleaner seal was a crappy car. I mean, why go to all the trouble of doing a resto, then leave off small details. I found myself basically ragging about 95% of the doc'd LS6's I came in contact with. Clones wren't even worth looking at. Then, one day I started driving the dog out of my own car. Started taking it to the strip, cruises, heck almost a daily driver for me. Things started getting replaced with non 100% correct items.

Then, my perspective changed. Who the heck did I think I was to be judge and jury of other people's cars? Why the hell was I so critical, when my own garage did not house a true 100% perfectly correct car? I was a big ol' crappy hypocrite and it sucked. Heck, right now some LS6 perfectionist would look at my car and probably laugh at my factory style 15" wheels, street slicks, headers, aftermarket wires, CD player, etc...Call it a pile of crap.

So, now I see a car like the one on Ebay and think it's a helluva nice car. I see some things that are not perfect on it, and thanks to the previous posts, am able to learn some new things. But, bottom line, hoax auction or not, it's one darn nice SD that I'd love to have in my garage.

Not trying to offend.

Just my .02

Mark

ITS BACK:

The first auction must have been a marketing idea like those guys in Boston for Turner?

This should be good to watch,

IF PEOPLE WILL PAY $ 3000.00 FOR CARB WHY NOT PAY CRAZY PRICES FOR A SD CAR.

Everyone keep saying; "experts have been quoted saying, Super Duties will be worth more than Hemi Cudas in Five years.."

Its kind of like a double-edged sword, I love driving the car but I am already scared as hell driving it around. When that car is so rare and valuable, it truly makes it nerve-racking to drive it. The Woodward Dream Cruise was so wild two years ago, I didnt drive it this year(2006). Of course I'm talking about the week before the actual cruise, when you can actually cruise. All of the residents there get so pissed of at the traffic there, they cut the cruisers off. I personally saw an accident there caused by a pissed off resident, and it wrecked a Perfect 67' GTO.. The money is good, that fact they are so rare makes it pretty damn scary to drive. We all live too close to High School female drivers.....
