G8 Pontiac engine swap
Just wondering if anyone has ever attempted swapping a Pontiac 400 or 455 into a G8 or GTO?

I'm shocked no one else has had this idea to put a Pontiac engine into one of these beasts.

why go backwards????
the current trend is to take the LS motors and put them into the older cars and have best of both worlds

No argument that the LS motor is a formidable power plant and although the G8 is not truly a Pontiac, it would be cool to have a Pontiac engine in one. I guess it's the same mindset of street rods. Everyone takes the easy way out and drops a small block in and that's it. Not very much imagination there. The new mentality is to match the engine brand to the body. More of a challenge but somehow the right thing to do.

It would be cool, but the extra weight would completely wreck the handling of the G8.

Hmmm maybe a Butler aluminum engine would be the ticket.

So SR-71, (why such a slow airplane?) did you ever put that boat anchor motor in the G-8??
We have two V-6 G-8s, and a Pontiac 400 and a 350 out of a 74 GTO, LOL

I’ve talked with Jeff Kauffman and the MR-1 engine I believe its comparable weight to to an ls and TONS more torque and a real Pontiac design type engine instead of a corporate chevy. The other reason is I don’t like ls motors.

Personally, I love the engine in my G8 GT. It is more reliable, and may even have more horsepower than my 455 powered Tempest. I have not had the torque and horsepower tested on my cars, so I cannot compare numbers. However, I can see your point. It is disconcerting to see a Chevy engine in a Pontiac at a car show. But, lets be truthful, a true Pontiac engine hasn't been sold in a new Pontiac since around 1981. That being said, I would love to see
a real Pontiac Blue engine under the hood of a G8 at a car show. It would be especially cool if it was originally a six cylinder base model G8.
