Default "Old Injun" 1956 Pontiac vintage drag car

Old Injun
1956 Pontiac 2dr sedan
Vintage AHRA Drag car w/ 292 class wins between 1960 and 1975

389ci engine with an aluminum Wieand 4bbl manifold and a Holley 4412 500CFM 2BBL carb (engine has 1959 date codes)
Modified 4spd hydro transmission
1957-1964 large Pontiac rear end with limited slip differential
The car looks as if it left the track 1970 right down to the vintage Stahl front runner tires and Mickey Thompson Challenger slicks
The car was featured in the October 1975 H-O Racing Specialties "the High Output" newsletter.

The car runs and drives great, it has a clean Illinois title in my name

$7,500.00

If interested I have a Wieand 6x2 Drag Star intake manifold w/(5) Holley 94 carbs (cores)and a pair of aluminum M/T valve covers that are available at extra cost to the buyer of this car.

For anyone out there interested in this car I went to look at it on Friday. Very nice outer sheetmetal need's a patch in the trunk on one side and spare tire well replaced. Tad has a replacement spare tire well for it. Some very neat thing's done for racing this car back in the day. Such as a mechanical lever for advancing the timing from inside the car and lot's of other trick stuff. Has had some floor patch's welded in but the crossmember's are in good shape and the frame is very clean as are the inner and outer wheelwell's no rust in the rocker's or quarter's just some minor dent's. Motor run's very well with no smoke and it can be driven! Need's a set of header's fabed up, but has stock manifold's and crossover pipe's on it for now as the header's that were on it were shot. Overall this would be very nice to put back as a nostalgia race car without a whole lotta work. Nice talking with you Tad. Lyn.

I'd sell a ton of stuff to get this car, but getting to cali would cost to much. Could I trade in a poncho on this car? Send me a pm if you would consider anything, open to ideas!! Thanks Lee

Lee,
Thanks for the intrest in Old Injun. I appoligize but currently I am not really interested in trades (althought a nice CA car woud be nice). If you are truely interested I can contact a local guy here that gets to the LA area every two weeks with a car transporter, he hauls factory return cars (lemon law??) from there to here. I can ask what he would charge to get the Pontiac there.

Tom
Thank you for your interest in Old Injun, I am really not interested in trading at this time. However; please send me some pictures of your T/A, I have a friend that has an interest in those cars.

the wife says i shouldn't look at this stuff but it's better than doing drugs. maybe i'm addicted to old cars. but to get serious has the rear been changed or is it still a posi unit, and what ratio? can you post some in trunk, engine bay and underside pics? since the motor is now a 389 is it just a stock motor or been worked on?

I am out of state on business, but here are is a picture of the engine compartment. It is an older picture taken when the modified 2GC Rochester was still on the engine. The old 2GC ran fine over 4k but was miserable at idle. I still have the 2gc and will let it go with the car. I also have a NOS rubber mat (front) thatgoes with the car.

The rear is not the factory rear, It is a 59-64 Pontiac rear with the large ring gear. I have not removed the 3rd member to visually check but believe it is a posi unit. using a chaulk line on the wheels and driveshaft it appears the ratio is around the 4:1 range.

The engine is the modified by the racer in the day, it sounds great and runs very strong.
I think this is the same engine he spoke of when the article was written, he misrepresented the Cubic Inch displacement which doesn't matter with todays bracket racing but would have made a huge difference when racing pounds per cubic inch.

Next week I am suppose to drive to Dallas on business. I intended on taking a round about way by Perry, Ok and try and find Mr. Frye, I understand he is still living in Perry, OK.

I will try and get some pictures taken when I get back home.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me at 309-256-2908 mobile

Man that is a sweet 56'. I have always wanted to do one, and have saved a 56 dual quad set-up for it someday. I have a few too many cars/projects at this point, and would let the set-up go if the person that buys this car would want it. I think it would go well with this racer. Not trying to hi-jack.........just throwing this out there for the car if interested....Dave K.

Seems like you are having the same luck, alot of lookers but no buyers, I am having the same issue with a 78 TA that I am trying to sell here on the boards, it all has to do with the economy, best of luck...
