Once the wheel is pulled how does one remove the collar from the column? Does the turn signal mechanism have to be removed? Thanks again.

The collar needs to be twisted on the steering column an inch or so than pulled straight out...but I dont recall if was clockwise or counter clockwise. You probably will need to to unplug the turn signal wiring harness from under the dash to fully remove collar. There should be a connector that contains several wires coming from along side of the steering column tube to under the dash. The wire for the horn runs through the center of the steering column tube and you need to pull that wire out of the connector before removing the collar and turn signal harness from the steering column. The process is much simpler than I attempted to explain.

I am rebuilding a 1963 Lemans steering column right now, & putting in a safe steering shaft that can collapse just like a modern car would, just in-case I ever run into anything hard.
The TS switch needs to come out. You need to remove that & also the upper shaft bearing, to which is attached the horn wire; then fish all of your wires up thru the opening underneath the bowl, the bowl, you need to push it towards the firewall about 1/4" THEN ROTATE that part counterclockwise to unlock it from the end of the hollow tube.
