I have a 62 Tempest Lemans that the original owner painted Black but the original color is red. Can anyone tell me what the official GM/Pontiac name for that color is. I think it can be derived from the vin # but I was hping to expedite the process. Thanks in advance for your help

You can see a 1962 color chart at www.autocolorlibrary.com. It looks like the bright red that year was Mandalay Red, the dark red was Belmar Red.
There should be a letter code on the trim tag of your car, it corresponds to the color. Mandalay Red is code V, Belmar Red is code L. |
