I found a nearly exact replacement for my '62 Tempest heater core. A core from a 1971 – 1977 Chevrolet G10 Van with 4.1L engine is exactly the same length and width but about 1/2" thinner. It fits perfectly in the heater box and with the addition of a couple of spacers even accepts the original clamps to hold it in place. The inlet and outlet tubes are the same diameter and orientation as the original but slightly longer. They can be cut off, or used as is with the addition of a couple of elbows. The best part is that you can get these at your local auto parts store for a fraction of what an original would cost. I got mine on eBay for $9.99.
