my thoughts; don't use the 64 heads, you have to modify the brackets to get things to bolt up, which will not look stock.
myself, i would look and see what heads you have, more than likely 6H. if so, i would go with 6X, have them street ported(about 500)look on herre now and then you can pick them up from someone selling his and moving up to alum. with the right work done, you can have a completely stock looking engine putting out around 500hp with a small roller cam. been there done that. w1ith your 455, 4speed 3.23 gears that will be more than you can put to the street unless you modify the suspension. also, with a unibody, too much power without things to help and you WILL twist the body, been there saw my buddy do it to a 79 10th 4 speed he was racing. all depends on what you want, look stock(for a car that nice it's what i would do) or go fas, buy a race car(which is what i did).

i was surprised they put a regular performer intake on it. but the price is cheaper than i could build it here, regardless of the intake. they don't list the cam specs either so that would tell more aboot it.

I agree a Performer intake would choke a 400/455 stroker w/ KRE's- an RPM or even the stock intake would be a better choice. You could always sell that intake easily and go buy a better one for the engine. But the rest of the engine is a very decent deal, assuming you could get more specs from them regarding the cam, oil clearances, etc. And the free shipping is definitely a plus.

will ram air 4 exhaust manifolds fit in an f body, and will a ram air 4 intake work with the shaker?

Those manifolds say they fit a firebird.
As far as intake manifolds go a few tests have been carried out and the winner is the cast iron 1968-72 and 1977-79. They are relitively cheap and are probably the best factory intake that any car company made. The manifolds can be modified to make even more power. Cliff R. is the expert I think. The 73-76 have a EGR valve and hump that restricts it. The aluminum HO/RA IV that was used in the test did not perform as well as the cast iron one. However, it was a NOS one that was later found to have different internal mesurements than factory. Due to some core shifting these ones MUST be port matched. I think the reproduction ones are pattered after the NOS ones. |

look up ram air restorations. they sell manifolds that will fit and cost less than that. if you are near Dayton Ohio in late august, or Norwalk Ohio in early august, you can buy from them at a show and save money.
one big thing about those RA IV manifolds, you have to have round port heads. they do make and sell D ports that fit the second gen birds, that what i used on my 78TA. the RA IV manifolds will fit a scoop just like stock. the over the counter manifolds and later repo's that are being sold, are patterned after the 72 intake. there is a small change that unless you are going for the max HP or racing times you will not be able to feel on the street. also, most factory alum intakes have ports that are terrible. small, misshaped, just all over the place. with just a little time you can really clean them up. you need to gasket match them, then match the head to the gasket. that would be something you would do on a performance rebuild anyway.

apon closer inspection of the engine, there is a big dirty 'ole 4X above the center exhaust ports of the heads.

big hammer
You have 73 or 74 heads. Check to see what the stamping is. It's a tiny stamping on a machined pad on the side one of two vertical ridges just below the vavle cover. They have to be clean to see and need to use a mirror facing up when looking looking at the engine from beside the fenders. 4H/4 = 400 small intake valve 3h/3 = 400 big intake valve 7H = 400 " " " 1H/1 = 455 Both valves big and large combustion chamber read low compression. If you have the 400 heads just send them to sd perf in BC He will make them work better than any factory head. Might be able to shave the 455 head as well. He is also full of good advice. Cam, carb, intake, ect. http://www.sdperformance.com/listPro...p?categoryID=5 Check your engine code, date code, and casting # You may not have what you were told. http://www.teufert.net/identify/identify.htm |

i wasn't told alot about the car. it was consigned to a dealer who didn't know alot about it. the PHS sheet came back legit, and the old ebay ad i found said it was numbers matching. i never did check into the engine that close because i didn't really care all that much if it was numbers matching, more that it was a real 455 car. i think it has a complete 73 455 in it.
