Default Another Tire Size Question

Went searching for answer to my question didn't find definitive answer. Keeping factory steel wheels for time being.

14X6 steel wheel car currently has 235/6014 tires which need to be replaced due to car sitting since 2009. My research seems like 235/60/14 or 205/70/14 will work. Problem not many choices for 70 series tire. Any suggestions ??

69 Lemans
Thanks,
Mark

The 225/70-14 (26.4" tall) is probably the most popular 14" tire size and still readily available, perfect for a 6" wide wheel. Wide enough to put some decent tread on the ground and the 70-series sidewall offers decent handling.

The 236/60-14 tires are super-short (25.1") and frankly are not well suited for a rim as narrow as 6", besides that I don't think you can find them anywhere nowadays. The 205/70-14 is way too short as well (25.3").

I like the smaller 215/70-14 myself (25.85"), will be running these on my 14x6" steel wheels with dog dish caps as well as on a set of 14x6" Hurst wheels. They don't have as much of a clearance issue in the front on a slightly lowered car, and lower the entire car just a little due to their shorter sidewall.

Here are some 14X6" wheels with 215/70-14 tires, on my soon to be released from garage prison '64 Le Mans convertible.

I know the pics are a bit dark and it's difficult to see much contrast in the wheel openings, but I hope they help you to decide.

The front end will end up sitting a little lower after I finish assembling the car, the A/C compressor and entire A/C system are still waiting to be installed among other things. The trunk is currently stuffed full of parts too, so the car should level out a bit once a I empty it.
