After going through Hell and back in my life, i decided it was time for me (to start living) to get a pontiac and enjoy it. If i had to paint the car in my apartment, i would have!! LOL Ive waited 10 years to build a pontiac. Ive also installed: new 4 core radiator high amp alternator new dash pad new HEI distributor new 280 watt sound system 8 speakers) dual exahust with x pipe new aftermarke AC system (i paid to have that done, aparently by idiots) soon a new 455(not stock ) dyed the vinyle in the inside of the car black installed new gas take gauge and replaced the aging hoses muncie in 03/06 10 bolt 8.5 04/06 and i tinker now and then. I still have a lot to learn, but the folks here and at PZ are so helpful, made my life so much easier when im wrenching on my 'yack.

Maaco and good paintjobs don't go together. Took a a completely stripped in Bronco for a quality paint job, Coca Cola white urethane and it came out with thick and thin areas, runs and dryspots just teribble. Never again.
Mind you for $300 one franchise here will mask and paint anything you prep'd which is great if you're flipping the vehicle. Can't buy paint for that price here. |

A few years back I had to repair a door on a Cadillac that had Maaco paint job on it, 6 months old. Took it to the local jobber for a computer match and then I worked for two days trying to get it to blend in and match but to no avail, there was no matching it, drove my mixer crazy trying to come up with a formula to match but we never did. Never again will I get close to a Maaco job unless i strip it off and go from scratch.

Pacific Heights was on TV last night. My wife couldn't figure out what I thought was so funny. Although it stars Michael Keaton, it is not a comedy.
A couple of months ago I had to tear our vinyl flooring with overspray on it from a tenant spraying paint inside the unit . . .

MAACO Paint Jobs
Both of these cars were painted by Maaco in Osseo, MN.
This was a franchise shop and not a corporate location. I believe that has something to do with the quality of work found at various Maaco locations. The Black 69 had six coats of Verdero Green stripped off and was dented on every panel in addition to being sideswiped by something big on the passenger side sometime before I bought it. Painted in March 2002. Photo from June 2005. The Burgundy 66 was a straight rust free California body and was pretty much a slam dunk. Nice car going to be done this spring. Painted & Photo Dec 2004. |

Did you deliver the '69 to Maaco pretty well apart, like the '66 is? Who did the metal work on the '69?

Maaco
A friend in high school had Maaco paint his camaro and the paint started to flake off the car...
Like everyone said... PREP WORK and FINAL FINISHING is what you pay for! Do your own prep work and preferably if they will let you do your own final wipe down before they shoot it...(to make sure that there won't be any fingerprints come up in a few years) and then pay them to shoot an extra coat or two of clear on it (so you can block it down and buff it out real slick) I have had people ask me to paint their car and when I hit them with a price that is 5 figures they say well I can get it painted at Maaco for $500 or whatever... I have to just say boys we ain't on the same page and we don't need to waste each other's time. Thank You.
