65 Red - Cover car
An old magazine cover showing a “Supercar”.
Interesting, one wiper arm. Less drag = more performance. Chris.

Less weight - Go faster
I've had that magazine since about 1976 as well as the "0 to 100 in 11.8 sec" mag. I've been into these cars long before the vette people found them and made them posh and fashionable. Still just a hot rod to me. |

We used to see guys at the track taking off their windshield wipers and outside rear view mirror(s) after we made a particularly good pass.

Not the same magazine. The "0 to 100 in 11.8 sec" was the '64 Car and Driver testing Tenney's '64 GTO.

Rarely I make passes with my GTO but when I do, it's completely empty, not even floor mats.
Years ago when I was having my 5.0 Mustang weighed-in during eliminations at a heads-up event, the staff at the scales told me to "either have lunch or put a gallon of gas in the car. Minimum weight was 2950 and I was right on it. I miss those drag days of having half a sandwich and adding a quart of fuel.

Once we got back to the pit area all of that stuff came flying out. All that weight in the trunk pushes the back end down, increasing caster and making it tow better, too. K

weight
Good story Keith and I'm glad I'm not the only one with an eye on the scales. Years ago I was part of a large racing group of 5.0 Mustangs. Sometimes we would travel to different tracks and it was constant learning about weight and low friction. Great memories, I took a stock automatic 5.0 (wife's car) and easily went 12.95 @ 105.5 just on weight loss and low friction. Then my son was born and two baby carriages didn't fit in the coupes trunk. Already had a 4 year old. Damn parenthood!
