On rear support the frame so there is plenty of room to lower the housing. slide floor jack under the housing with enough tension to take the lower shock mount off and lower down till spring is loose. Unbolt lower spring retainer. Note it's position. On front, remove the shock and support the frame with enough room to lower the lower control arm all way to end of "swing" or length of control arm. Remove the sway bar bushing at lower control arm. With the tire removed, put floor jack under the lower control arm as close to the ball joint as possible. Leave about 1/4" clearance for control arm/spindle to separate loosen the lower control arm nut about 2 turns . Take a "pickle" fork and wedge it between ball joint and spindle and separate. I use a BFH and turn wheel to get good hit on spindle where the ball joint is instead. It takes a lot of force to separate the ball join from the spindle! That way I do not risk tearing the rubber cover. There is no danger from spring until you take the nut off by jacking the lower control up just enough till nut can be unscrewed. Remove the nut and lower the control arm to the floor. The spring will stay in it's socket all way down! Remember that the control arm MUST be able to swing the whole 14" or so to the floor. No spring compressor needed to remove spring. Work safely and support car with proper jack stands .
