Default 1965 Spinner Hubcaps

I still have the original spinner hub caps for my ‘65. All four caps have definitely kissed a curb or two over their lifetime. Is there anyway to restore them or should I just look for a new set? I have NOS spinners and would like to just have the disc for each hubcap repaired…if possible. The backs don’t look too bad.

Has anyone had any experience trying to repair these?

And of course...Don't hesitate to PM me if you have an NOS spinner hub cap you would be willing to sell.

Thanks!

I had 4 complete sets of these 2 years ago and wanted to restore 1 set for my 65. I saw a few cars at the Nationals had them and they were perfect. I was told by these guys each cap was about $1,000 to restore for a total of $4,000. I called one of the restoration places that did the caps and he said to send pics. I did and it was $1,200 per cap to restore and they were not trashed. Only typical curb rash. Needless to say, I sold all for sets and stuck with my poverty caps. This included chroming the spinners, so your caps would be less since your caps are NOS.

I had set repaired and polished back in the 80's. They were on the 65 Tiger Gold car that won Best of Show at the 1988 GTOAA Nats in Wichita. He has folks ship him parts from all over the country. He said they were tough to do. I haven't seen him in a couple of years, he's over 90 now. He was training his grandson to take over his business last time I dropped by.

wmurrell, Any update on repairing/cost for your caps? I still would like to do a set for my car, but not for the price I was quoted.

No...I have been trying to find a couple of caps that are in decent condition. No luck so far. My caps would require too much work (ie $$$) to restore.

My '65 came with those, but they were long gone in 1982 when I got the car. I wanted to get a set, but they were not around even 30+ years ago in decent shape. I don't really care for the way they fit the wheels.....they sit proud of the rim and just don't look quite right, IMO. I went with Rally 1's and am still running them. Got the center caps and trim rings back in the early '80's for $2 each out of the bone yard....

Really cool 60’s style “spinner” Custom Wheel Disc.

I have to agree with Jeff. These Disc stick out too far from the rim.

No wonder most are dented from the pounding.
