Default Voltage Regulator Rebuilding

Does anyone know of a rebuilder for GM voltage regulators?
Have a April 70 dated reg and it stopped working driving back from a show last weekend.
Tried filing the points but still not working.
Thanks KC.

Ebay vendors sell a electronic conversion kit using the frame of the original regulator.

I have used them before, had good luck with alternators when Sr was alive but not so much with Jr. I heard he stopped the resto business he took over from Sr but I will call him. Thanks KC

It's my understanding Jr sold the business.

See this thread from the Corvette world on how to take the guts from a Wells VR-715 ($35 at AutoZone) and install them in the original Delco VR case.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-rebuild.html

or just buy a solid state kit: https://www.zip-corvette.com/63-68-v...onversion.html

I would go with the VR-715 guts. It's all surface mounted devices vs. the capacitor on the kit version which is through hole.

KC, how about putting in an internal regulated alternator and by passing the stock regulator, but leaving the original on the firewall? I did that with my 66 GTO and have never looked back. You can gut the original and use 2 jumper wires on the inside of the connector blades. It will look like you're still using it. Wire jump 1 and 3, and then 2 and 4. Connect the alt regulator wires to the original wire set to the regulator and you're good to go. I can get you photos if you need them.

No more problems with the one on the firewall, and it will save money in the long run.

No problem AC. If you want, I can post a photo of the jumper wires in the regulator... which is gutted. It's still on the firewall tho.... just for looks.

Check this post as it shows everything with more info from Wallace Racing. The regulator isn't shown but the jumper wires are.

I can still get you the photo of mine just to make it clearer where the jumpers are soldered to the prongs of the regulator.

I am so thankful our forum is light hearted. I opened the link to read about the conversion & all of the sudden everyone was arguing. Geeez, was a little irritating to read. While I have owned a couple of C4's years back, I am glad I am not in that vette scene It's different kind of car world.

I still have the stock external regulator on my 69 gto with stock alternator. I did notice it was overcharging a bit last Summer so I made a regulator adjustment. Whats the benefit to going to this product?

After trying to clean the contacts and play with the adjustments without success, I bought the USA made solid state conversion kit and did it myself. It was pretty easy.
