Default 69 Carousel Red on standard GTO

How rare is carousel red on a non Judge? Does it ad value to the car? The PHS says solid special. Does that mean special paint? I know there is no color breakdown but think it must be somewhat rare. Trim tag does say 72 paint code.

I would say at the beginning of the model year it would be 'rare' in that it was not available on the GTO. At some point they made it available (special order) to the GTO, then it would be not as rare?

So, more than likely it's a later production GTO.

Here is some data from my PHS collection:

Out of 521 non judges 12 were CR. However 11 of the 12 were built once judge production started (exception was built in early December). So once judges were in the pipe CR was used on about 2.6% of the non-judges, not popular but far from the rarest color and probably the most popular extra cost color.

8 were hardtops and 4 are ragtops, this is in balance with my non-judge collection in that I have two hardtops for each convertible in the collection of documents

A few things stand out though, 6 of them had power antennas and 6 of them had Ram Air. Of these 4 had both the power antenna and ram air. This is significant statistically since only 14% of all my non-judges have power antennas and only 10% of my non-judges have RA.

This makes me think that some people wanted a judge package without the stripes and wing and perhaps some cars were ordered as judges with power antennas (and the factory dropped the judge option because of wing to antenna conflict) or some people wanted the judge look with a power antenna so they added the wing and stickers at the dealer.

I think a GTO painted CR would be a bonus.

You likely have my old PHS non judge ra3
It was Mayfair with Parchment and vinyl roof. I'd say THAT was a rare color for a ra3

I'd consider it a mild rarity in overall perspective on a GTO.
But not strong enough value/priority to bring back a basket case just because of it.

Years ago before internet, 69 Bird owners would get wound up about a Carousel Car.
Turns out they are rather plentiful.
