+1! I am salivating about this build What do you expect to put down to the wheels? And can you post when you plan to take it to NED? I want to be there to see it make a pass

This engine should have been on the dyno already. Tom Vaught's help and Ed Page's patience has been great. We have had things that cause a delay due to this being our first Turbo build. For example, neither Tony nor I had any relationship set up for purchasing these injectors. Since we dont normally like to pay retail, it is a tough pill to swallow when we do.

We are now waiting on the fabrications department on intercooler, headers, and cold side. I cant get a firm commitment on the 4500 series air bonnet. Will try that this afternoon. Casey and I are going to the fab shop on firday to figure out all our final strategy. I am also going to BES Th or F to get progress on the engine build. I will try to get pictures.

We are using the Dominator Controller from Holley Cg, I think you will find that more than satisfactory. It has full capability along with electronic transmission control. It also have drive by wire, but I dont think Ed wants to do that until Holley has more experience with it.

Side note, Caseys SuperCoupe turbo Tbird 3.8L V6 has a best of 820 RWHP and 805 Torque on a college shoe string budget street engine!

Curt,

In your opinion, what’s the bare minimum we should be monitoring?
The Holley Dominator ECU supports quite a few inputs.

20 high side (+12v) PWM or switched outputs
16 low side (ground) PWM or switched outputs
6 speed inputs (magnetic or hall effect)
30 0-5v sensor inputs
13 Multi-inputs

Each header tube has an EGT bung, there should also be an additional bung installed in the collector and 1 before the T6 flange to monitor back pressure.

I believe we have the following sensors:
2 NTK O2 Sensors
2 3 Bar Map Sensors
2 Air Temp Sensors
2 100PSI transducer
1 Coolent Sensor

Racepak makes an interface that will take all the info from the EFI module and record it in the racepak a driveline sensor is important and if your using a boost control - record that, fuel pressure, I also read pan vaccum. Dont put the O2 sensor to close to the turbo outlet - it changes the readings. Thas enough to get you in trouble - -lol

Holley Dominator EFI has internal data-logging standard with 2GB of memory as well as boost control based on time, gear, speed, etc..

Was that crankcase vacuum?
Is there a rule of thumb for O2 sensor placement distance from the turbo outlet? I looked at innovate motor sports manuals for their wideband sensors and they claim the temp at the bung should not exceed 500c or 900f.

Monitor boost to backpressure too. Positive delta(boost higher than backpressure) good negative not so good. Strive for 1:1 or better. Not easy many never get there, but if power isnt what you feel it should be for the boost its the first place to look unless you have other obvious problem. Once its right(at some point you decide you got all you got) you probably wont look at it directly.

12" minimum from turbo outlet should work fine. Also, having it before any couplings in the exhaust system will insure no outside air will pollute the readings in case of a leak at that coupling. Lastly, they should be installed at roughly 10 or 2 o'clock position.

Yes, the Holley Boost control is currenty under beta test. They will use an electronic solenid to control the wastegates.

Default Picked up a T400 Transmission

Case only...
I needed one for the mockup, getting the 69Bird ready to send it off to the chassis shop to get it cut up.
Anyone have a first gen Bird for sale setup to handle at least 1600hp, send me a PM.

Thanks.

Mock-up engine and turbo400 transmission installed in the 69bird last weekend. Thanks Polar-Pontiac for sending over some links to potential candidates. That 68 in Texas is a beautiful car, if only I had a few sponsors…

Hi,

Do you have any pictures without the engine block diaper?

Why are the head studs different color?

Please post pictures of the piston dish before the heads are bolted on.

Thanks, Looking Good!!!!
