Default Grill color?

What color should the grill color be on a back car? My 68 didn’t come with hideaways factory but it has them now.
The grill is black now. Is that correct? If not, can it be painted or ?

The grille was argent silver with black for the areas meant not to be seen. Krylon dull aluminum is a close match

I’m not sure what you mean on “areas not meant to be seen”
My pieces are all black with a stainless trim around the edge. Would I paint the whole grill that color?

The horizontal bars are silver but the supports are satin black so they aren’t noticeable. Same for the hideaway doors, only the raised bars are silver so they look like they are floating.

I went with Argent and gloss black, then cleared with satin poly. New aftermarket chrome.

Heres a 4 page thread on quite a few aspects of the 68 Grills from about 2 years ago.
Lots of pictures too.

Jimmy M, I have considered replacing the stainless on mine but wondered about the proper fit. Yours looks great! Who did you get the stainless from?

Greg, I have one original GM door trim that has been re-chromed. I forget if its the left or right side though. I would have to look. its in my box of future sale parts when my car is finished. mostly re-pop parts I didn't like for one reason or another.

I would wonder how well the repops form to the curved outside edges.

close up Pictures of gtohunters fitment would be awesome.

Here's a thread from some time in the past about the fitment of the aftermarket pcs...

Ah, I remember asking that question and your reply, just didn't recall that it was you that answered it. Thought maybe I was going to get a different answer..lol
Looking at the pic above, I would say they work well in spite of the slight radius issue you noted.

If it makes you feel any better, a while back I did some searching & caught myself reading my own post on a thread from about 12 years ago.
Didn't even realize its was mine at first. Info I suppose I researched, posted on & forgot about.

was kind of funny & concerning at the same time
