Default 1968 Floor mats 631/632

Would this be what the 68 floor mats look like front & rear?

One of the things on my punch list I need to order soon. Mine would be black but these in red show the details pretty well.

Chevrolet made one mat for all lines based on the B Body. You would have to trim the B body mat to fit in the Chevelle.
Our sponsor's catalog mentions that the rear mats need to be trimmed for bucket seat applications so It may be the same for Pontiac. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The rear mats need to be cut for bucket seats on the A bodies and were done that way from the factory. Original mats have a cut line with directions on what to trim cast into the back of them. The template that the repops supply to trim are actually off a little bit (what a suprise!) Even after trimming they don't fit as well as you'd expect them to as the cut they direct you to make goes much deeper than the relief cast on the other side.

there are actually slight differences in the original mats spanning 67-72 where patterns change a little. pretty sure the repops are based on the 68/69 design. It's been years since I chased all over about this, I know I had some threads about it years back, I'll have to do a search in my history for some links to the pictures.

edit: found the thread with the picture of the back mat cutting instructions:

Thanks for the input & the link to your older thread. I would like to see a picture of these mats I think before I buy some. If they have to be cut & still don't fit well, that would be disappointing.

Here’s part of an original right front floor mat which was in my car when I purchased it in 1987.

The rear mats in 68-69 were designed to fit in full-size cars and 4 door midsizes without trimming if the car had a bench seat.

Full-size cars with buckets required slight trimming and mid sized two door cars (shorter rear seat floor pans than the 4doors) required additional trimming with bench seats and trimming on both sides with buckets.

I have a few cars with factory installed mats still in them and you can see the different cutouts patterns molded into the backside of the mat.

Seeing the rear have to be modified so much, I think I would likely just order the fronts. Still haven't decided though.
Assuming they are not contoured to the floors at all, the wrinkles might bug me. Hmmmmmm.
