Default Lock ferrules

F203 I just tried to install 1 on my 65 GTO. Per instructions I soaked it in boiling water.
Immediately tried to install it & trashed it. Couldn't even put the lock back in.
Boiling water, is that how they did it on the assembly line ?

I don't think so. Just like they didn't have to bend water pump divider plates.

No the original were a heavy thick pliable plastic.
The ones offered now are pure sh!t, even after you get them in they are bound to break in short order. I replace them almost every season.
Funny thing is I just had the '66 on the show field in Norwalk and my DS ferrule split and fell off from the "heat" junk I say! :)

...same for '66. I'm just over replacing them every season so looking into something similar to the late model "metal" type to be done with it.

Tried to put an AMES ferrulle in today. Finishing the interior on the 64

Heated one with a heat gun. It wouldnt go in. Third time I heated it,it melted.

They are pure crap.

I saw some metal ones for a mopar that have the 4 metal tangs that are bent over when installed.
I am considering ordering themjust to see if they fit the hole.
Guess I could e mail the guy for a diameter measurment.

I just went through the same thing. Ames ones even chipped my paint. Buy the ones from the Parts Place. They're made out of a different materiel, they are actually somewhat soft. They fit well in the hole, but file the center out slightly first so the lock button fits better. Much much better and easier.

A heat gun is not recommended for these ferrules. Boiling water will distribute heat much more evenly, without melting the plastic. We have sold thousands of these exact ferrules for years using and recommending this method, with great success.

Please send over an email to kyler@amesperf.com, and I can get another set out to you to try with boiling water.
