Default Proposed 1969 Sprint Firebird Hood Bird

Rocky Rotella just reminded me of the Proposed 1969 Sprint Firebird Hood Bird that I had forgotten about. (Along with a proposed Trunk Bird for the 69 Firebird 400's) Link below

https://www.pontiacv8.com/blog/2024/...rd-400deck-lid

It looks like both were proposals for the extended 1969 production models. While I think the 400's Trunk bird would be unattractive (to say the least) I think the bird with its wings wrapping around the Firebirds hoods Ironing board would have looked good on some color combinations.

What do you think? The Hood bird would have had similar colors to the Color rendition of the trunk bird in the 3rd attached photo.

I'm curious how the OHC one would have actually looked like on a car. Color selection and color contrast would be the dividing line between tasteful and tacky.

Gary, I would also like to see what the hood bird would look like, how far back the wings would go, how it interfaced with the overhead cam hood emblems. I think it could look good on a white or yellow car in the colors of the trunk bird rendering.

I put a factory red/orange/yellow '73 decal on my first 69 Firebird, a Matador Red 350 convertible about 1976. I think it was $54.xx from the local dealer in Bayshore NY.

Cammer6, You may want to contact Rocky Rotella and ask him about it. My guess is that he won’t have any other information or illustrations. (He may have said that already in a post or his book) If nothing else exists, it would be fun to create an “almost was” or “could have been” an option decal. Who knows, in 20 years we could have people believing that it WAS correct for the Sprint Firebirds. Selling hundreds.... Similar to the Buick style stickers on the Pontiac V8 air cleaners........ 😝
In all seriousness, it would be cool to see an actual styling exercise rendered on a vehicle.

Notice that the Sprint decal was actually 5 parts, each listed separately. I guess you can think of them as the beginning of the yucky 70's mentality, "I guess if the government won't let us make fast cars anymore, we can at least try to make them look fast?"

Rob I like your thinking, its just as warped as mine is!

North I know what you mean, my 77 Astre Formula is a great example of "at least make it look fast" Thankfully my car did not come with the optional Hood flames like this example. Almost the same colors proposed on the 69 decals
