Zone Car
I have Zone 311 space 509 on my phs. 311 is Hanover Garage in Albany, Minnesota and 509 is Village Pontiac in Napperville, Illinois. Also to the right I have 11 991 for the ship to. The 11 is for Milwaukee, WI but what is the 991???
My second phs has Wilde Pontiac bottom left corner. Trying to decode this thing so any help is appreciated. |

The '311' is the zone - this style used '3' for Pontiac and the '11' is the zone.
509 is Wilde Pontiac Inc - zone 11 dealer # 509 The other code drops the '3' so shows zone 11 991, which is the zone office. The car went to the zone office, then to Wilde Pontiac.

Depends kinda.
Usually not customer ordered. Pontiac or someone at Pontiac ordered it. Sent there and if some dealer had someone looking for a car that matches what is in zone office, they send it to that dealer. (why some have 2 or more 'PHS's) Look for the Identification code, top right and/or at the bottom almost. 3 letters and 6 digits. Tell us what that is. Or post the PHS.

Identification numbers are different and the invoice total is too. Price difference isnt enough to suggest that the car was used as a company car though.
Let me know your thoughts and what that August date represents?? Thanks |

Cool, you do have both PHS'
The 1st ID # is PRJ xxxxxx The 'R' is for the plant car built at The 'J' is for the zone storage, 'J' had a special meaning, CRS right now. (the last letter is usually for financing terms for Pontiac) So it sat in zone storage (or was company car) until it came up for sale at Wilde Pontiac. (6-30-69 to 7-22-69) The ID # changes to ZRA - 'Z' for zone area BVZ can explain the whole thing.

The 'J' was for Zone stock, PMD made cars for use in zone areas.

Thanks John, Trying to get the history of the car.
Still have no idea who the first owner was either? All I know is it was bought from Wilde in Waukesha and about two years later traded it in at a Buick dealership in Green Bay. |

I remember going over the paper trail on this car before - but don't remember what the body date was on the cowl tag.
991 was usually for Inventory Cars in a Zone Storage Lot/Facility (Zone Stock) 992, 993, 997 usually was involved with zone cars that had actual company use within that zone. It's not a type car that would be acquisitioned for zone stock . I remember thinking there must have been other factors involved that sent it to - or through - Zone Inventory. Like a buyer backed out before the car shipped from the plant ... as one example. It's too eclectic in it's content, even beyond being a JudgeVert. Column Shift plus all the add-ons. Possibly someone in the armed forces that didn't come home again. Someone got drafted that thought they wouldn't. 100's of possibilities in June of 69 No indications of any use. Only variance is the $10 Adv Assoc Fee Wilde sold a lot of prestigious muscle cars Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 08-14-2020 at 08:41 PM. |
