Default Looking for Ram Air IV Carb for AT (#7029270)

Starting a marriage project between a '69 242 convertible and a ram air IV block & heads. Car was originally an AT car and my block is an XP block so I'm staying with the automatic route. Would like to find an original intake manifold and #7029270 carb if possible as opposed to going the (considerably cheaper) aftermarket route. Thanks! Eric

I am sure there are members here who have them;

Cliff often has desirable application number carbs that are not advertised here.

Keep your eyes peeled on eBay as they do come up from time to time.

If you find a potential candidate, I'm happy to help you discern if it's a restamp, ect - just shoot me an email (link in profile, no PM please)

It seems to me the average/reasonable asking price for an SR unit is around $800-$900;
The non-SR units are often about double that - just be lucky you're not looking for an OE non-SR m/t carb those get really pricey fast!!

That's the ad;
The seller doesn't indicate the species(?) of carb - as a matter of fact, I find it odd that the most valuable part has no detailed pictures;
But for an American buyer who might be interested in the extra parts, this could be a deal;
If my math is correct $2,400cnd is about $1,800usd.

Default 7029270 Carb

It turned out to be a modified carb that he bought on eBay six years ago. The main body looked correct but the air horn didn’t

There was a member here in BC selling one a couple years ago, I believe it too was a service replacement unit though.

Default 7029270 Carb

Thanks for the lead ! I’ve reached out to the seller and waiting for a response. I have to say, I wonder if there’s any original, unaltered ram air carbs out there anymore. In my searching it seems you can find carburetors with the original main bodies but either the airhorn or throttle bodies (or both) have been changed. You would think the body would be the hard part to find (!)

on there are original ones out there still.
They are just not cheap.

The real leg work is in knowing what are the correct casting numbers and physical traits of them, because as an example, in the case of the throttlebody there are two distinct variations of the same casting number - and they were machined one of two ways depending on the intended application;
Then there are a few (as far as '9270 carbs are concerned) OE vs SR differences.
But really, they are the sum of the parts, and it has been pointed out before, virtually any Quadrajet can be modified (if done properly) to run just like a 750cfm '270.

The only real problem are the unscrupulous individuals who take a carb then with deceit as their intent, renumber it and try to present it as something it wasn't with little regard to anything other than getting top dollar because of the stamped number - this can often been seen with ebay units.
