Default 1987 Safari Woody

We have an 87 Safari Woody Wagon with a 307 olds engine and a 2004r. Question: This is listed as a GM B Body car. Are most parts compatible with G bodies of the same year?
Motor mounts - are they same as the caprice 305/350 mounts?
Crossmember - same as the G bodies with the 2004r?

There are not a lot of listings for parts for this thing.

NO, the B-bodies are a full size car & the G-bodies are the down sized models. More on the line with a nova or a bird. The crossmember will be short if you try to use it.

B and D body rear wheel drive vehicles shared many parts.
The "family" includes:
Chevrolet Impala, Caprice
Pontiac Catalina, Bonneville (until 1981)
Oldsmobile 88, 98("C" body)
Buick LeSabre (until 1985) and Electra (until 1984)
Also, Olds Custom Cruiser, Chevrolet Caprice and Buick Roadmaster wagons form 91-96 shared some components with these cars.

I have an 89 Safari with the 307 Olds .....88 and 89 Cadillac's also had this same 307 as well as some other GM makes. Some big Pontiacs/Olds/Cadillacs of this era had the Chevy 305. You just need to find another car with the same motor and many of the parts/brackets/etc are interchangable. There are many late 80's Cadillacs in the pick-a-parts ....much stuff is available.

Default 87 Safari Woody Wagon LS1 T56

We completed an LS1/T56 swap into our woody. The drivetrain came from an unfortunate 2004 GTO that was totaled.
It's now a great cruiser that my 17 year old drives every day.

We used a set of pedals from an 85 camaro and made them work in the 87 pedal frame
We used a G body exhaust kit and modified it to fit the B body. 2.5" duals with Flowmaster 50s and 3" SS tips.
Crossmember was modified to mount the T56
Hydraulic clutch setup from the GTO was used
PRO 5.0 shifter for F body fit well with the bench seat
Motor mount plates with SBC clamshells and drilled new mount holes in frame
Shortened driveshaft
Used cooling system from GTO - rad, fans, pressure tank, steam lines
LS Power Steering pump just had to fab the lines to the old gear.
Fuel system - in line with Corvette filter/reg for 58psi.

Default New Woody

My son was hit in the 87 4 weeks before Norwalk. B pillar and doors on drivers side not fixable. We found and built this 89 in 2 weeks. Used the LS1 and 6 speed driveline from the old one.

I saw your 89 parked on the grass near the gate at Norwalk a few weeks ago :-) Attached is a picture of my 89. Need to pull the 307 and chuck it ...no power. Have a TA 403 or a Toronado 455 in mind to replace. Bruce

Late to this post, sorry I usually keep up with the odd ball Long roof postings but this thread slipped by me.

Great cars! Love what you did with them and impressed with the time it took to transfer the drive train from the unfortunate 89.

I have a 78 Catalina Safari, with a Buick 350 that I am just finishing up a cam & intake swap on. Here are some pic's.

What part of Detroit are you in? I am near Metro in Belleville.

Hi Jeff, nice wagon! We are up in Clarkston. Just had the 87 carcass hauled off to the junkyard after we took everything we could see needing in the future.

PY has years '67-'79 in one full size forum. I think they should include 80 and 81, along with later Parisiennes/Safaris.
I'd separate forums into "67-76 Big Ponchos" and then have "77-90 B bodies".

B body includes 1983-86 [US] Parisienne, '87-'90 Safari, along with the '77-'81 Catalina/Bonneville.

I agree, but management here doesn't really seem interested in the change as those of us interested in the post '76 big cars (and in all fairness, the post '70 big cars) are a small and dwindling group.

I've been looking into the Parisiennes for the kiddo for her first car and the info on these forums is pretty much nothing.

I agree with everything said, the Parisienne could be a very good 1st car for her, just avoind the last year or 2 as they have the stupid door mounted seat belts, I always hated them and never trusted them. I passed on a very loaded low milage non wood grain 89 Safari for that reason.
