Pri Accel pump unbrella and Upper Spring.
Dizzy HEI center button needs to be < 10 Ohm, not > 6K Ohm
Plug gap need be =/< .040" range, not > .050"
Total ADV for stock 400 iron = 34 in at 2800, no Vac adv hose, not all in off-idle.
Too much ADV off-idle will cause a pause.

Use freshly pumped gasoline

Did you ever get this taken care of? I have pretty much the same problem on a 71 TA with a 7021268 carb that was just rebuilt. I am using manifold vacuum now. My initial timing is set at 12 BTDC.

Re-hashing this, any progress? I am going to play with this this weekend.

No, I never did get that particular carb lined out. I tried all that I could and nothing seemed to help. I ended up rebuilding a 7029268 carb and the car runs great.

I had off idle stumble on my SD. At times it was ok then a stumble. Drove me crazy. Here air valve from hand manipulation worked fine. Hmm going crazy finally I was just at wits end. On bench the air valve stuck. I looked close, there were mark's where it had been hitting carb body. I just loosened screws, centered it,works fine. That may not be your problem but something to look at.

The 7041268 is a completely different carburetor and those are really lean right off idle. When I build them here I change the jets, metering rods and PP spring which corrects all those issues. For sure I'd stay with that carburetor they are excellent units. Contact me if you want the correct components to fix it.........

Cliff, I have your book and I think this carb may need an APT adjustment. I have an olds a jet laying around and I see that aluminum plug that guys tap and install a pipe plug. I do not see that plug so how do I adjust the APT on this sucker. I wish you could have done it for me but it was bad timing. I did speak via PM on here.
