Well I am at that time in the restoration that I need to purchase a weatherstripping kit. I am looking at the Soff Seal kit but are there other ones out there that I should look at?

Well worked on the car a little today patching fenders and doing some body work on the decklid. As you can see whoever patched the fenders previously just cut my inner bracket but I plan on just cleaning it up and putting some seam sealer at the patch and bracket area to keep and moisture out. My father thought the car needed to get into the holiday spirit also.

I was thinking about re patching it but I don't know if I would have enough material for the new patch.

Regarding the inner brace, I kinda wonder if you really need the part that's missing. You've got the majority of it there and I think once on you get the fender in place and bolt it up to the bottom of the cowl, it's going to be plenty rigid....

BUT, on the other hand, I know how we hate to take shortcuts and it may bother you just KNOWING that it's not there.... In that case, I would think all you need to fabricate is that small portion of the brace that's missing. Leave the fender patch itself as it is.
The missing portion of the brace shouldn't be hard to fabricate

Yeah that was my thinking with the missing part of the brace. If I put panel bonding adhesive between the brace and fender and then bolting it at the bottom to the cowl it will be plenty rigid enough.

I asked earlier in this post but no one responded, I was wondering what type weatherstrip kits has everyone used and what did you think about them?

Default Very nice job!

I purchased Softseal seals. They look great but haven't installed them yet...

I also just had mine stripped and e-coated and am curious if you found original style rivits for the body tag, or what you were going to use when you replace it on the firewall?

Thanks, Dennis

I bought a "kit" from one of the GTO houses. The A piller seals were Softseal, door weatherstrips Metro. All other seals were in unmarked packaging,so not much help here.Everthing seams real nice though.

Thanks Chip, I got lucky, we had to hang quarters and outer wheel houses but the floors were pretty solid. Also had to put patch in at bottom of windshield. But for a north east Indiana car it was amazingly solid thanks to being parked since around 1982.

Your car is looking awesome, great job! I will do some research on the rivots also and let you know if I find anything. I am also going to do a little looking around here and see if it has beenn discussed before. Maybe start a thread on it and see what the experts have to say.

Keep up the great work and good luck with it!

Dennis

Default rivets

Hello Chipper, just to let you know, you won't have any problem finding them on e-bay. I just ordered some for mine, we will see how they work but look real good.

Is there a special tool needed to install the rivots? Also can you send me a link where you found them. Thanks.

The one place had instructions with the rivets but did not list them as being correct for 69 gto(although I think they probably are). His ebay store is called mikes chevy parts. The other pair I bought were listed for our car and his ebay seller name is gm_restoration_parts.

I doubt it takes anything special to install them. Looking at the rivets and the way they are made, I am guessing you put a punch in the center of them and strike it with a hammer to mushroom them on the back side? But waiting for the instructions to see for sure.

I hope that helps, and when mine show up I can give you a little more info if you want.

Denny

just to chime in here....I found that the door weather stripping from metro was somewhat softer and actually fit better than the softseal

Default A/C radiator

Does anyone have a picture of A/C radiator support? Over the last 12 months I have been busy restoring my '68 GTO vert, I know that it was worth more when I first purchased it but I am not selling it so I "Foosed" it with Wilwood brakes, Hotchkis suspension just to name a few modifications. Anyhow I am in the re-assembly stage and remember removing A/C radiator when clip (including nose) was removed already. Well nose is back on and painted mirror black and am hoping that I do not have to remove it again but Pictures of engine/radiator area would greatly help.
Thank you
Tom
