I messed up the paint on one wheel lip but most of molding will cover it. Need a few touch ups regardless. Body and frame are one again after two years...

Ram Air III resto
Got the engine fired on Sunday and sounds nice. Problem is the pilot pushing is too tight on trans input shaft, so I can't disengage clutch...Need to drop trans and put in a BEARING this time...and not a bushing!
Few more pics from last week, prior to starting engine. Last edited by 7T-GOAT; 08-02-2017 at 02:23 PM. |

That Dash looks perfect. Was it restored outside or did you manager that art work?

Thanks, yeah that's the original dash. It was in decent shape and still soft. I made some small repairs and shot it with dye. All the gauges are rebuilt and the trim pieces are new aftermarket. Aftermarket dash stuff is pretty well made IMO. I cleaned, painted and cleared the back side of the dash. Repaired a couple wires of the original harness and rebound it with electrical tape. I want to be able to see and feel clearly if I have to go behind the dash anytime soon
I got the pilot bearing and hope to get trans back in and brakes bled today...for a little yard drive. |

It looks like you are using the correct '69 only dash vents that have the chrome on the sides. Are these original or did you find an aftermarket source?
Thanks - I'm restoring the dash in my '69 and I don't have a solution for those vents yet. p.s. - Great job on the resto!

"Are these original or did you find an aftermarket source?
I cleaned them, taped them up and rattle caned them...pain in the a$$. I wanted to get the chrome to wrap around the leading edge, like factory. I was surprise how much reflective property that spray paint has. Yeah, I went the cheap/labor intensive route but not too bad really...at least the vents are clean... I did get the M-21 back in and working properly and also the brakes bled to do a yard drive yesterday. Best I can tell, that's the first time it drove on it's own power in 30+ years. It spent most of it's life in the Illinois countryside, hot rodded, beat and butchered it. I think it was parked early on, with all is drive train gone. Your car is coming along beautifully - NEAT!
I have a question.... is the breather vent tube painted or is it bare metal? Couldn't quite tell for certain in your engine photo. I'm getting closer to starting a RA III car restoration and am crunching through various details. My car's vent tube does not show any hint of having been painted, but one source tells me they were painted. Could it be that RA's had bare metal (galvanized), and air cleaner cars had painted vent tubes.... hmm? |

Hey 7T, thanks for getting back. Yeah, I do agree that no one will argue it either way - paint or coated metal. Earlier today I was thinking I should have done a search on 'vent tube' before popping the question to you last evening. I did the search and up comes a thread from 2013 asking about 'vent tube color.' Go figure (ha). Below is a post from the thread that seems to answer the question. Several others posted-in and concurred with 68gtoMN. And, this also describes my original vent tube... black, and oxidized to gray (but is not paint). So there it be, oh well.
Again, your car is looking so good... I'm a bit envious - need to get started. Gary in Tucson Quote in 2013 from 68gtoMN: "These were black from the factory. Black phosphate or zinc, I can't recall. They oxidize and turn grey over time. They were not natural color nor were they engine color. I have pictures from two one-owner cars that I own. Neither ever apart and not tampered with. Both show black original finish even as other parts of this tube have oxidized." |

It's been a while since I showed the progress and it's come a long way. I've got about 0.05 miles on the road with the car. I'm waiting on polisher to finish some stainless but literally 5-6 small things left to do.
Purchased in '13 and I moved at a snails pace at times...important thing is I finished and satisfied with the results. I know I don't have an other resto in me however! Sad to say it'll be for sale early '20... |
