Does anyone make a direct replacement for 2nd gen multi leaf spring perches / seats.
I am doing a few 12 bolt replacements, and rather than butcher old housings I would get new spring perches so ordered "replacement" ones from a USA supplier. I knew the locating seat on the upper pad may be an issue, but thought I deal with that as long as the geometry was OK. 1st issue, height was different, I know there is several different but the 2nd Gen multi stuff is the same on every rear end I have seen 2nd issue, no recess for spring pad locator - not too much of a biggie ? 3rd, main issue, the spring pocket is too narrow and wont allow for factory OR replacement spring pad isolators with the cushion at the sides ??? These are about as far from replacement as you can get !! They are nicely made, laser cut and very accurate, just very accurately WRONG !!!!

I've been down this road before.
Ok, there are 2 diff types that 'locate' the spring, based off the pin. Those pads that are arched all the way across capture the pin in a pocket in the pad, and, under certain power levels, can slip out. Soooo, IMO, it's best to use the ones where the pin actually goes thru the hole in a 'flat' pad with hole. If need be, you can use shims to adjust pinion angle with the pin type easier than the 'ridge' one. In some cases you might have to change to a longer pin. The further the pin is from the actual hole in the perch, the more chance there is to slip out. I think the differences come from multi-application perches, like 1st-gen F and Nova stuff, but unsure. The 2nd gen F body is pretty specific I believe. I suspect you have already sourced some from housing shops like Currie and Moser, but my suggestion would be to talk to Moser. I understand that Moser' support lately has been hit or miss, so call multiple places and talk to them. Eventually, after talking to a few people, they will understand the situation, and actually take the time to listen and think it through. I at one time believed the best approach was to use a single leaf perch for a multi-leaf spring with no isolators, but am re-thinking that now since I'm in this same boat with reviving my 2nd gen project. With a mono-leaf perch and no isolator, the ride height changes in relation to the isolator thickness. I'd be interested in what you find out after calling around, since I have to go thru this myself very soon. As an FYI, Global West makes a mono to multi-leaf perch conversion/spacers, which could allow you to adjust for specific combos. Might be a good source to call Doug at GW and talk to him about perches. .

I was just after basically factory replacements that look stock as I had both OEM rubber and aftermarket poly mounts. I am building a 12 bolt for 76TA and an early 70's Nova which use the same spring perches. Though it would save torching a set off a 10 bolt housing. Unfortunately being over here in NZ, by the time we pay international shipping, exchange rate, duty and tax anything here ends up 3-4 times the USD cost in NZD $$. These were listed as "Designed as replacement so you don't have to hunt the boneyards when doing conversions".........Not really so I get improving the situation and on heavy street / strip cars have gone with positive retention without pads/ isolators, solid front bushings etc etc, but in my older age thought I would appreciate some ride comfort LOL. I guess I could butcher these up a bit, make an isolator and have the spring wedged in-between the new mounts without a lateral isolator.... Was just hoping it would be a bit more of a direct replacement to save me the hassle.

Keep in mind the " center" bolt keeps the spring " centered" and is supposed to go through the shock plate. Don't put your project in a situation where the shock plate is bent like "U" and center bolt can slide. Shock plate should be flush to perch.
Many, many rubber repops of isolaters are way wrong, seems for truck springs..

My one shock plate is slightly bent from poly mounts, am going to replace it, that was assembled 25 years ago just so I could roll it around. I have stacks of spares.
I think this time around I will grab the aftermarket type that has the tie down eye, since I don't keep a spare in the car. Went I went to the 9", the tubes were larger in diameter, had to wobb the holes out in order for the U bolt to pass thru. I also ran U bolts in both locations, but this time around will only run one and T bolts on the other like OE. .
