Default Slant 4 trans. adapter TH350 / TH200-4R

Has anyone adapted a slant 4 to a turbo 350 auto transmission.

Its been done many times. The main hurdle is starter. An adaptor is needed to mount the starter to the bottom of the block.

Hmmm The standard V8 flex plate with 166 teeth is 14" dia. Would have to make a custom adapter. Kits available not close. Looks like I will have to machine myself. Maybe manual trans with small flywheel is easier.

I saw a setup once where the factory manual transaxle bell housing up front had a plate welded to it to bolt a transmission to it. Used the factory flywheel & starter.

Cool, I'm in my welding/machine shop using a powerglide case. The bottom blots and centering pins line up and center of imput shaft matches center of crank. Tomorrow I will weld tabs on case to match block. Once I have that done, will get a flex plate and starter. That should be easy. Will post pics.

Does the case you have have the BOP pattern? There may be issues with the converter nub in the crankshaft. A standard BOP case will have 4 bolts align with the T4 block.

Default 200-4r trans. & slant 4

Machined a piece of aluminum and welded to trans. Adapted 2 holes to fit block. Next is adapt starter to bottom of block. Did notice crank center will need to be bored out to accept 1.7 pin on torque converter. Will do that when motor gets rebuilt.

Default Slant 4 trans. adapter

Ok, All fab work completed. Yes starter has proper depth and works great. This was a lot of work, even for an old welder/ machinist shop owner. As you can see trans. housing had to be notched. Only thing left to do is bore out end of crank (1.7) to fit a torque converter. Bob

Neat project, I'll be interested to see when it's all done and in the car. What's the differential ratio, is it going to work well with the overdrive transmission?

I'm going to put motor in a pontiac astre. A 3.55 gear works great with this trans.

I have a 389 going into a 700R4 with a 3:50 rear end. 2000 RPM at 70 MPH. You are going to like your set-up.
