Charles, that is exactly what I was thinking.
Where should the black with orange stripe pick up power? There is a black with orange stripe in the picture along the valve cover that is cut half way. Thought that was going to AC that someone else removed. Should that be getting the power? Man, this is getting painful! |

That BLK/ORN wire should go to a fuse (30 amp), and connect directly to the Batt term on the alternator. NAPA carries a fuse holder like that.

Hey Charles,
What gauge wire for dat? I'll pick some up tomorrow to extend. How in the h*ll did I get that blower working last year??? Can I McGyver it and connect the wire to the alternator without a fuse as a quick test??? |

OK, I didn't wait.
I hooked up direct to alternator and relay clicks. I now have power on all three terminals on the relay. (Didn't check what setting inside) Then the resistor, which was loose in the blower housing, arcd ( how do you spell arc'd? ) and blew the heater fuse in the fuse holder. Took off battery lugs and that's where it is now. ARE WE CLOSE???? |

You are getting closer, but I'm wondering why the heater fuse blew under the dash?
If the resister unit was loose in the housing and it made contact with the case, that should not be fed by the heater fuse. The heater fuse should only feed through the master switch out to the winding of the relay. It's only purpose is to provide a control path for the relay, after it operates, it feeds current throughout the system. Follow the drawing and it will show you that the current flow to the resistors and fan and compressor clutch SHOULD be fed by the 30 amp fuse we spoke of earlier. Therefore, I would not try this again without some sort of fuse in that BLK/ORN wire. Blowing that heater fuse under the dash indicates some other "jury rigged" wiring in the relay control circuit which is the grey wire to the relay. That relay you showed it the earlier picture does not look to be stock, so I wonder what other wiring has been changed around there? |
