LED bulbs
Anyone here running LEDs for the 1157 and 1156 lamps in the tail lights and front turn signals? And if so what ones do you prefer?

Unless you use a resistor the 1157 led won't flash with the directional lights on.

This one https://www.amazon.com/CEC-EF32-Elec...GC21TJK306YEEP will handle up to a 25 amp load. Each 1157 lamp will pull about 2 amps when lit, so theoretically this flasher will handle 1 to 12 lamps at the same time at a constant flash rate.

I'm using them in the rear of my '64. I cant say I particularily care for them much.
The traditional bulbs tend to spread out the light encompassing the entire lens better. The LED's while brighter, tend to send direct light and light just a bit wider than the bulbs themselves. Not sure about others, but I didnt have to use a special flasher. I just used what was already in the car. I did notice that the directional did blink a little slower though |

I checked out the digitalis video and like the brightness but really don't like the look of the little individual "bulbs" or the sequencing. It still has a cheap homemade look. I really like the new organic LED panels or Electroluminescent tape (EL) is much more appealing and look more professional. The could be used to cover the reflective surface behind the red lens making it cleaner looking.

I use these in red. They work great, I wanted 40 year old tails to look bright and have intensity. I tried white, but they made the lens look pinky orange. The red fixed that problem. I also painted the back of the housing with chrome paint, just to get the shiniest backdrop I could get. My tail lights look red and bright. Two bulbs were like $20 bucks shipped. The regular LED bulbs direct most of their light out the end, these flood the housing.

A few things:
Always match the LED bulb color to your lens color. Using a red LED behind a red filter is WAYYYYYY more efficient than putting a white LED behind it. A red lens absorbs all light except red. If you have a white LED behind a red lens, much of that light is absorbed and so less bright. White bulb housings are brighter than sliver, or even aluminum foil. Transistorized flashers must be grounded, so there's a little more to it. Flashers are indexed. They can only be plugged in one way. The two connections made are B and L. If these are reversed with a standard flasher it's no big deal. But with the Universal flasher, this gave me problems when I first installed my LED lights. B or B+ is 12V from the battery - the supply of electricity. The L is the Load - what uses the electricity. Make sure you order the right flasher. Do this with a voltmeter on the two sockets for the flasher. Only one will have 12 volts. That's B. Draw the sockets on paper as it's really easy to get things backwards in your mind. _I or I_ I like my Digitails a lot. In actual use the "little individual bulb" effect is less pronounced. The "Sequencing" can be turned on or off with a dip switch during installation. I turned mine off for a stock appearance. They are much brighter and safer.

x2 for the Digitails.
I like mine as well. I was having all sorts of grounding issues so I had to make a change anyway. Wanted to give them a shot. Changed all my exterior lights to LED, including a halo headlight. main bulb is still conventional on the headlight but there is a LED halo when I run the parking lamps. |

Very bright, 420 lumens. Looks great. Stock Flasher won't work now. Also went with a led license plate bulb, and trunk light bulb. Tried cheap ebay bulbs, but the base was too loose of a fit in the sockets. https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...ofit-car/1166/

Could have sworn I had a picture on my phone but alas I do not.
I'll post pics as soon as I can find them but here is the article I found while I was looking and I ended up buying the exact headlights through Firebird Central (Camaro Central) http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/pai...ssic-chevelle/ |
