Default Tring to buy a new 09 G8 GT

Well I don't think I can pass up $6500.00 off a G8 GT. We can only find a White one equipped the way my Wife wants it, cloth interior, no Sunroof. But after Driving it last night, and realising how tired her 99 Grang Prix GTX is getting. I think we are going to do it.

Only thing I didn't like was no Heads Up Display (I have grown lazy and learned to really like the one in her GP!!!!) And the wide A Pillers. But everthing else was Great!!!!

Any other good or bad things to know about them before I actually sign the papers on 12-18?

OK, The G* is a GREAT!!!! Car, but I have already found a few things that irk me.

1 - No spare tire or jack with the GT or GXP.
2 - No truck or passenger door lock cylinders, I know you don't use them much, but the battery is in the trunk!!!!
3 - I have nothing to prove this, but it seems to me the radio controls on the radio face are set up for a right hand drive car, they just seem alittle off for someone in the drivers seat.
4 - The center disply is annoying to me, I still like seperate gauges for things, not having to scroll through a menu to see what I want. I will have to do somethig about that.

I know minor issues, and I hope nothing major pops up, I still really like the car!!!

Jeff,

If you want to PM me the last 8 digits of your VIN, I can run a report and see if those recalls/updates were done.....

Default I like mine but....

Maybe it's just me as I can't seem to leave anything stock. You might want to make it breathe a little easier with a cold air intake and then to re-tune the computer. You can make it a lot more fun to drive by having the right person set the parameters. Just changing the shift points should increase the fun factor quite a bit. The 2.92 rear gear can hardly smoke the tires on the GT although there is a lot of potential in that L76 engine.

I did the Vararam CAI, the heat soak relocation kit, Corsa exhaust and will probably install my Kook's long tube headers next week.

The G8 lacks a few interior touches like the homelink module to open your garage door. I purchased one on eBay for like $30 and installed it myself. The '09 models don't have a light in the glove box or center console.

The subwoofer amp is in the trunk next to the battery and you can turn the bass up some right on the amp. I reccommend this.

The 3-1/2" dash speaker level is too high and it's the worst speaker out of the 11 so you can either pull it out or put a resistor in line to attenuate it some.

The spare tire and jack kit for a Caddillac CTS will fit in the trunk well.

I really do think it's a lot of car for the money but having the LSX engine under the hood is such a temptation to tweak it for more power.

Check www.GRRRR8.net and www.g8board.com forums for a ton of info.

Curt,

Thanks for the info, I am already on the g8board, but I will be sure to check out the other one. Grom the looks of the 99 GTX we traded in I fear the G8 won't be stock to long, but my $$$ situation has been tight for 5 years now, so we will see what I can do. I am definatly going to have to put a gauge kit in it, I can't stand not knowing what the engine oil pressure is!!!

My wife thinks we need to get a small Lion (for Holden) and tiger to hang out on the rear package tray, I am not so sure.

Thanks for the tip on the subwoofer, it SOUNDS like even I can afford that one!!!!

As stated the manual trans was only available on the GXP models. Those were $8000.00 more expensive, and sold out when we finally decided to buy.
Also you could not get a cloth interior in a GXP, I know that doesn't sound like a disadvantage to most people, but my wife and I both agree that we don't care for leather interiors. And I am a cheap bastard and don't like to pay for things I don't want, or will not use on a new car.
Well I did take care of the no spare tire issue, bought a jack & tool kit, and a slightly dinged 18" 10,000 mile wheel and tire the same style for $175 so I feel better driving the car, and the Blizzack tires make driving it it the snow no problem at all!!!!!
