I'd take a set of Polar if you decide there is enough demand for them.

A Schab.

I received a PM today from another member GRNMTGOAT. He has an original paint 70 T/A I believe and he decided to buy some Cameo White to see how it would compare. He told me it was a near match to the 46 Y/O Polar white. He seemed pleased. If you want to try and see if it would work for you, PM me your address and I'll mail a small sample to you so you can see.

Thanks,

James

Here is the list that I have come up with. If a member expressed an interest without giving a number wanted, I counted them as one set. I will get with Steve to get an idea of how many sets we might expect from the guys he has been talking with. I will maintain the list as current as I can. If anybody was left off or wants to change their quantity, please just post what you want to change. I was pleased to see we are at 33 sets so far.

I inquired today regarding the color proof. Hopefully that will be coming shortly.

Thanks,

James

James You can bump me to 2 sets, I am sure I will do a second one of these at some point and it may help to keep costs down for us all just to over plan. Mark

Received my red and cameo welting. Thanks James. The product overall is very good and color match is excellent. The only thing that is off is the width of the welting. It is not as wide as the original and I'm wondering how it will look installed. Anyone else notice this? How's it look installed?

PureSD, my dried out old sample of an orignal is very close to the same as James's. The exposed part is identical in width and the part that goes behind is just a tiny bit wider. I have no idea if this old dried out beef jerky of a sample has shrunk much during the years as it has petrified, but I can't see it being significantly different in width. Of course, I haven't installed it yet, but I don't anticipate there being any issues. I've compared it to the grey repro stuff and the exposed side of that is the same as James's as well, but it is a hair wider.

I compared to my original un shrunk on both my '73's and exposed edge appears wider on my originals. I am just eye balling it though and trying my best to line up to the originals. Anyone else?

Hello PureSD,

Good Questions. There will be some differences and those will occur by color and by lot run even though the material was run through the same extrusion die. The Standard tolerance for Extruded materials like this one runs +/- 10%. Each different color and each different run will have different levels of colorant and solids as well as the polymer or binder. With each recipe being different, I am amazed that the Extruder can get it as close as they do. The Extruder tries to account for the differences by adjusting the material temperature, machine pressure, and die temperature that is used to push the material through the die. It really is a science and pretty fascinating to watch. I wonder how much the batches that GM ran 40+ years ago varied.

As I have looked at original samples you can definitely see variation. So too will there be variation in the reproduction. It unfortunately can't be avoided. Be that as it may, if anybody who has purchased is unhappy, please let me know and I will be happy to provide a refund upon the return of the material.

Thanks,

James

I am very happy and impressed with the white welting. Matches my white 73 perfectly and very flexible.
On a side note what is the best glue to use to hold it in place. For the most part I don't think glue is needed but around the sharp bends and on the ends I would like to put something there to keep it in place.
Again thanks for this great product.
I had originally ordered 2 sets but because of the problems with shipping you encountered I wanted everyone else to get a set first so I only ordered one. If you have more white I would take that other set. Thanks.

I'll likely be ordering a few sets of various colors in the coming months for projects anticipated in the 2017-2018 finish time lines...

niceta,

I have been told that Weatherstripping adhesive works very well. I am planning on replacing the welting on my 74 this winter. Still driving it too much right now. I have enough of the Cameo White to send you another one any time you would like. Just send me a PM and I'll send you an invoice. Thank you for the repeat order and i'm glad you like it.

Stan65,

I have you down for 2. Thanks

Tazzz2,

That's Great! Thank you for the interest.

comanchefirebird,

If it does not make sense to do Polar White, then you could try the Cameo. I have had another member try it on his original paint 70 and he said it looked pretty good. I will know more as we progress through some of the lower volume colors and I'll post it here.

Thanks,

James

Here are the latest color samples. Starlight Black, Sterling Silver, and Solar Gold. I do not know if I will run welting with them or not, but I had the paint so I went ahead and made them just in case. These were colors that have been mentioned by one or two of you as this thread has gone along. I would be curious what the rest of you thought about the level of interest in these colors would be.

Also the Lucerne Blue material sample was confirmed to me to be underway last week. We should see something hopefully next week.

Thanks,

James

Black will be a big hit. I think you would have more interest in Brewster green than gold.
