Exclamation Hey Texas!

Be careful out there!

Tropical Storm Harvey projected to become Category 3 hurricane

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/24/us/tro...vey/index.html

The Weather Channel was just reporting that the storm is likely to stall between Corpus Christi & Houston until possibly as late as Tuesday or Wednesday dropping as much as 30" total in localized areas!

it's looking like significant rain - upwards of 2' in the worst areas - is going to be the major issue due to it's slow moving nature. the coast looks like it will get pretty hammered. by tomorrow night, winds up to 115 mph as it hits land.

The Weather Channel is wrong more than they're right on hurricane predictions(4 years on the S.FL coast taught me this!), but that part of the Texas coast hasn't seen a hurricane in decades. Hope everyone heeds local officials and evacuates when they're told to.

Sadly, we've had such a rapid growth, and influx of folks who may not understand how the FLAT (for miles & miles) coastal zone can flood to a ridiculous depth. I think the "old heads" will do as advised, but there will still be lots of rescues accomplished from the high water.

Up here by Austin, we are just looking for soaking rains to dry out the parched land, and fill up Lake Travis again.

Pat, I just caught Accuweather's Joe Bastardi's prediction: landfall between north of Brownsville and Corpus Christi as a Cat 3 or Cat 4 storm late Friday or early Saturday. Rainfall amounts of up to 20-30 inches. The storm is predicted to move back out to sea, restrengthen back into a Cat 3 or Cat 4 skirting Galveston and Galveston Island before coming back ashore in the Golden Triangle on Monday or Tuesday, then tracking NORTH into the Ohio Valley (me). The last time this happened(Ike) we didn't have power for 10 days.

Loaded up with groceries (beer and tortilla chips) and made room in the garage for the wife's SRT.

We are usually okay on the N. side of Houston but if it just stalls and dumps for days we can really be in trouble.

Hopefully not We had a bunch of Katrina refugees float there way up this way via public assistance. It galls me that 12 years later, many of them are here & still on the Fed governent dole, how does that still happen? 6 months ago, I whipped in the Dollar Tree in town to pick up a $1.00 pair of reading glasses (never again). Took 15 minutes for two mid 30's 350lb Katrina "victims" to get their cart unloaded & items sorted to go on two EBT cards. 2 liter after 2 liter of grape soda, Coco Puffs, vanilla wafers, red beans & rice, Tabasco sauce... what a diet. Even worse, nearly every item could have been bought for much less 3 miles away at the monster locally owned grocery store.

I got the Bandit and General up on jack stands and have a house full of kids since school was cancelled today. Built a wall out of mounted wheels and sand bags around the back door (our problem area) and thats about all I can do.

The other cars are in a newer part of the garage with a drain and is higher so I dont think I am going to have a problem.

got plenty of food, batteries and flashlights. bought a lot of charcoal to be able to cook everything in the fridge when the power goes out.

time to have a beer and see what happens....

They're talking about 3-4 FEET of rain around Matagorda Bay and as much as 1-2 FEET of rain as far inland as San Antonio and Austin. Folks, if you're in a low lying area, GET OUT NOW!

Catching some outer bands here in S.E. Texas. Nothing major yet. Rita and Ike did not cause me much damage, power out a couple weeks, down trees, a few missing shingles. Not sure yet, flooding may get me this time .......live really close to a bayou.
