x2 or 3 on the mr gasket grey ones... steel core & a graphite like coating. have had them in use for 5+ years with hooker super comps & round port e-heads. no leaks or problems & plenty of drag strip runs & abuse.

& been using the fibre/paper gaskets supplied with hedman D-port headers on a 78 t/a 400 for 10+ years with no leaks or problems. just to retorqued after a few heat cycles then check every season.

im sure remflex are the best, but guess im just lucky with stock paper ones or the cheap priced mr gasket ultra seals.

It sounds like every brand and type of gasket works great. Good to know!

Had good luck with Mr gasket, and usually whatever brand(headman), tubes your running.
Brand is not as important as break in, I tighten mine the first 5 times it cools after install, then in 2 -50+ mile trips, then check ea time i do plug, or oil change.
Hate a blown gasket, feels like u lost 50hp, lol

Best so far 1/8 et,8.90 on street tires,
Since that I have added 400 heads.

I just got on Remfes's website and punched in the info for a '65 GTO and got zip. No gaskets. What part number are you guys using for D port heads on a 389/400?

Go to "GM" and then down to Pontiac on their website catalog -- but Summit's price is much lower.

12-001 is the standard D-port size
12-002 is the large D-port size

Here's the Summit link:Remflex 12-001 Gaskets

On my street cars I am totally sold on Remflex. The two drag cars and the test stand I use the soft aluminum multi-layer since the headers come off pretty often. I stopped using copper because the ones I purchased didn't always seal up the small gaps. While the copper leaked a little at least they never got any worse.

Just as Mick specified above, the Remflex 12-001 is the standard D-Port gasket. Search around for that number on Ebay, Amazon, and other places on the net for the best prices. Just remember, if you are buying just the gaskets, you will have to pay an extra $9.99 shipping from Summit/Jegs if you are not spending over $99, so you may find them cheaper from another source.
