What's up with closing the bars? Everyone knows that alcohol kills germs!

In another post, someone was grousing about the hoarding of toilet paper paper towels. I replied that when martial law is invoked and we are all in lockdown, it won’t be referred to as hoarding. It will have been considered good planning.

Amazon still has some paper products and I just stocked up. I do Nutrisystem so my food delivers once a month. I will be be able to hunker down, eat and wipe my ass for a while.

I also moved my 401k funds to Money Market On Jan 1 as I do every election year. I always get out of stock funds in election years, too much pingpong due to uncertainty. Just luck I was out before the CV volatility started.

The only positive thing that has come out of it for me is the fact that I got a jury summons today and my wife got one last week. Scheduled her for the 7th and me for the 8th of April!
I requested a deferment because I work nights and would probably miss two days of pay.
They told me to toss it in the trash and don't worry about rescheduling it. No jury duty until April 9th at least.

Noticed that Gold and Silver have gone down substantially ... along with the depressed stock market this makes for some tremendous money making opportunities in the near future.

We were able to get our taxes done at HR Block. No change there still have to file. Lol I wore a mask and took my own pen to sign everything. Wrapped a tissue around that plastic pen attached to the pad you have to sign to. Didn’t touch their antibacterial bottle either on the desk that everyone else touched. Having Leukemia has taught me how to be extremely careful about germs and bacteria.

My lap top died the other day so I ordered a new one from Best Buy. I went in yesterday morning and picked it up. A friend who works there said I was lucky I got one as they are selling out. People working from home and kids doing on line school are snapping them up. She said business's are coming in and buying 10 at a time. All of the gaming gear is gone as people are buying them because their kids are home from school for the next 3 weeks or more. Here in Michigan all of the bars and restaurants closed yesterday at 3pm. They can do carry out only. The gyms and health centers closed also. I don't know anyone who is not taking this seriously but some are just going crazy like it is the apocalypse.

Just got this from Mecum

Quote:
March 17, 2020

In accordance with the CDC’s recommendation to postpone events involving more than 50 people over the next eight weeks, we will be rescheduling our March and April events. The March Gone Farmin’ Spring Classic Tractor Auction and the Houston Collector Car Auction in April are in the process of being rescheduled with our venue partners at the Mississippi Valley Fair Center and NRG Park. The new dates for these auctions will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate through this process.

Sincerely,
Mecum Auctions

The Millennials and younger are referring to the virus as #BoomerRemover

Evidently they are keen on seeing their grandparents die.

Agreed!

Just got back from some banking and post office stuff I needed to do in person here in southern OH. First time out since Sat. Kind of weird driving around my little town. About half the businesses say open, few cars on the road, much larger Police presence than normal. In a 2 mile circle back to my house, 2 county Sheriff's, 1 Vandalia Police, 1 Dayton police, (airport police). Typically, you would be hard pressed to see any law enforcement at all on a given day. This could have something to do with the polls being closed across the State as the primary election was halted at the last minute. Bank and Post office open, both almost empty, Family Dollar open, moderate cars in lot, Arby's and Burger King Open and empty, this was at lunch time. 10 minute oil change, open and empty. It's a little strange out there. BTW, gas was $1.50 in several locations.

Flew into Trenton last night, got out of the airport @ 9PM. Almost no cars on the road, (even on I-95). Freaky, like the bomb went off! Found out we now have a curfew, supposed to start at 8 o'clock

I'm staying clear of crowds no matter where they are. I hope tho that come June it has died off.

I volunteer for the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's WWII Weekend's flight line every year for the 1st weekend in June. With 8 to 10,000 on Friday, 20,000 plus on Saturday, and another 8 to 10,000 attendees on Sunday.... plus all the volunteers, flea market vendors, and reinactors: it is one hell of a crowd. As of now I've no idea if the show is or will be cancelled... or not. The volunteer meeting is this coming Saturday and that's a crowd itself. That alone would make you worried if nothing else will. PA's closures are for the rest of March and into April. If the virus burns itself out before the first part of May, then all should be good for the show to go on. If not, no show. And this will be one hell of a show just because of the aircraft that will be there, plus more that haven't been announced.

If you've never been to the show before and are interested in WWII aircraft and all, this one show you must see... even if for one day.

I watched a special on the virus today on the Dr. Phil show. Hopefully it's online as EVERYONE needs to view it. He had 2 doctors with him. They dispelled many myths that have been circulating. He even interviewed a man and his wife that were on one of the cruise ships and he was determined to have the virus. Looked to be around 60 or so and has recovered fully. He even stated he would go on another cruise immediately!

Pretty big reaction in the LA county, all restaurants can NOT have any seating.Only take out or deliveries. Not sure if other counties will go that way also.No traffic on the roads, many chain stores have closed. Not sure if any remembers the SARs Corona virus from 2003 or the MREs Corona virus of 2012 but nothing like this happened back then.Different times I guess.Stay safe.Tom

Italy is hard hit, and farther down the potential path. 2500 fatalities. 340+ today. This link has stats and growth graphs. Hospitals are taxed and it is what you don't want to happen.

Default Governor of Nevada just shut down the entire State.

Ordered ALL 'non-essential' businesses to close for thirty days.
State government offices like DMV closed immediately.

Casinos all closing by midnight tonight.

Everything else by noon tomorrow.

Hold on tight and try to enjoy the ride!!

That is big!
Those are the most drastic measures that I've heard of to date. I've been following the daily W.H. press briefings and can't say that I'm surprised. Every couple of days it seems the noose tightens in my state. Today it was same announcement as Tom described, take-out only at all eating establishments. I have friends in the medical field, and they are worried about their capacity to deal with this. Very worried.
Luckily (if needed) I have enough N95 and P100 face masks to support family members for a good while.
