Default Clutches again

I know I opened a clutch query a while back but this is a little different. I have been reading reviews on Summit and it seems like you can’t have your cake and eat it too. I need reasonable pedal action because for one it’s a street car and two my wife will drive it some. I am reading all kinds of stuff about chatter or slippage. What are you manual trans guys running that will hold my combo without being a bitch to drive?

I put an ACT stock style clutch in my 2009 Mustang. It's rated to hold 650 hp. The Mustang is making 610. No slippage, no chatter, and pedal effort is very close to stock. I would highly recommend it.

Yes, ACT or SPEC, which as pointed out on the previous thread, appear to be the same manufacturer.

https://www.advancedclutch.com/

You have to call them and tell them you have a '70 GTO 455, that will make sure you get the proper kit.

The SPEC clutches seem to be a lot cheaper. Are you sure they are by the same manufacturer

No, not 'sure', but they do look very much alike.

Just make sure you get the right spline disc for the trans you have.

Look at the bottom of this page, and I would suggest the 2+ setup.

Are you using a hydraulic TO bearing? If not you should seriously consider it. Let hydraulics work for you for light pedal pressure, your not getting any younger!

I really like my McCleod street extreme clutch. It’s rated to 700 hp 700 ft. Lbs. i still have mechanical linkage and the pedal effort is very comfortable imo. I have zero complaints thus far. I could drive in city traffic all day without left leg fatigue.

Proper selection and matching of master cylinder bore, stroke and clutch pedal ratio to pressure plate load allows tuning of clutch pedal effort.

Lots of good info here for you. You never posted your H/P on your combo. I would get myself a 11" stock set up like other have said. Get an Organic disk. Ask the manufacture for the rating on the Pressure plate force I guess you'd call it. This will be key to pedal effort and holding pressure.

As far as using a Hydraulic clutch setup, I can only speak for my experience. If you find your mechanical linkage is not binding or causing you grief, and your happy with it then so be it. I went from a mechanical setup, to my current Hydraulic setup and I love it. So smooth. It's not just about pedal effort Tom, using a Hydraulic clutch setup.

My current setup is an ACT clutch using an 11" organic disc rated for 700 ft lbs. HD/Perf Street Sprung - GM6-HDSS. You would not like it as the clamping force of the pressure plate is around 3500 pounds. Makes for a stiffer clutch pedal, but I offset it with the installation of a Hydraulic setup. No slippage and finally no chatter. My last 2 clutches from McLeod were RST dual disc. The pedel effort was phenomenal. They are rated around 800 hp, but both chatter taking off and backing up. drove me crazy. They are both dual disc clutches sitting on the shelf now collecting dust. Pretty much brand new both of them.

I would think any of the manufactures that make clutches will be very close in what your after. Stay away from Ceramic disc on the street.

Remember, Force of the pressure plate, Material used in Clutch disc and Mechanical or Hydraulic clutch all add up to the comfort and enjoyment of driving your Car, and a quality flywheel.

Charles.

ram 88764 for 26 spline input shaft 88762 for 10 spline you will be happy with pedal pressure on these clutches and no chatter we use a lot of them on street cars in that power range
