Default Just bought a '67 today. The good and bad.

Hello All,

This is my first post in the '66 & '67 area (usually the '64 & '65 section). I just bought a '67 HT today. This car was restored in the early 90s somewhere in Moscow ID and parked in a driveway in 1995. It wasn't moved since and has been slowly deteriorating for over 2 decades. It started out as an Aquamarine Turquoise, but was repainted the light blue color.

It's an automatic, without any special options.

First the bad:
-It's been sitting outside in WA State since 1995, hasn't moved an inch. It had 6" of moss and pine needles on it.
-The interior is destroyed.
-Holes in the trunk pan, bad rust in the channel surrounding the windshield and taillight surround.
-Needs a complete restoration.

The good:
-It's a 1 owner car and all the pieces are original, no modifications to the car (other than the stereo).
-It started up after sitting for 24 years!
-I got it for a really good price.

My plan is to take it apart and put it back together in its original color as I did my '64. It's like a barn find, without the barn. Driveway find?

I am sure I will have SO many questions for the '66 & '67 crowd, so thank you!

Respectfully,

Greg

You certainly didn't get hurt if that's what you paid for it.

Bob,

Thanks. I've gotten a few things from you in the past. I am sure I will have a list for you on this one! LOL.

Nice score. Needs a lot of work but at 3000.00, it gives you a lot of room to fix it up.

It looks as good or better than mine when I got it. And, I am partial to the mariner turquoise. I got a lot of help and encouragement from the great folks here when I did the restoration' I am sure they will be there for you as well. If there is any way I can help let me know.

If I hadn't seen these pics in an older thread, I would've thought six inches was an exaggeration.

I've seen far worse that that one Greg. I say you make a good decision to buy it. Lots of work but it'll turn out great when your done. Good luck.

Was the house where it sat abandoned? Looks like no one has been in or out of that driveway, or even taken care of the place, in a long long time.

No, not abandoned. It was one of those situations you see on American Pickers where the house gets over run with things. There is a very private person that lives there, a recluse really. Nice man in a bad situation.

Nice find!

I think I've seen pictures of this car at some point. Same driveway and state.
Always great to hear of a GTO that has been rescued.

I know of one, a 67 that has also been sitting in a driveway for 25 plus years.
They replace the car cover from time to time.
It's at the father's house, the son left it for an east coast career.
It was nice 25 years ago but the weather has taken it's toll.
Someone told them to leave the windows halfway down for venting...This destroyed a beautiful interior. I convinced the father to roll them up.

Not for sale, he's going to restore it someday...

Anyway, let me know if you need any support on your 67 - I am a Legends member and local!

Got some more pics for you! I had been stalking this one since 95/96 myself. I went to Redmond high and would drive by this everyday dropping off a friend. It was absolutely show quality back then. I visited again in 2000 and it had been moved to the spot it stayed in... I tried a few times over the years but never got to talk to anyone and never got a call back from my notes. Glad to see it's getting the attention it's always needed!

Here is a pic from 2005... I'll see if I can dig up the others I took over the years.

Congrats!
