All full-size in 69 had a clear lens (with amber bulb) at the front end cap molding and all But wagons had a red lens light at the back Molding end cap.. wagons used a specific large rectangular bezel below the molding to house the rear side marker light..

The side molding on the wagon just ends abruptly at the back in a saw cut. Poorly executed, looks like something was missing.

These two images from a factory 69 brochure illustrate the difference. I suspect the tail lamp housing location on the wagon precluded using the non-wagon side marker arrangement.

Starting in I believe '69, they were required to have a side marker on both the front and rear, I think this was their solution.

Side marker rule kicked in for the 68 model year. The 70 model year required both light and reflectors on side markers which killed all the near little 68 lights like the Pontiac arrowheads or the 69 Firebird units.

Thanks for confirming that. When I told people about it lighting up they would give me a strange look. I never cared much for the add on side body mouldings that were popular. However the 69 factory side moulding looked nice and very cool when they lighted up.

Great collection you have there. Getting very hard to find original survivors in nice condition anymore. Have you noticed that a lot of the nice survivors are the green colors with green interior or unpopular color combinations? The red and black cars were popular and typically changed hands a lot. The colors that appealed to the older generation when new seemed to have survived the best. 1969 is one of my favorite years. I also like 1967. At one time I had a 67 GTO, 67 GP, and 67 Firebird. Like 69 you can definitely see a strong styling theme that was used on all models.
