Default Temporary fuel delivery to engine. Curious what you guys do.

Let's say I want to start an in car carbureted engine. Not sure of gas tank and lines. What have some of used to supply gas to pump temporarily? Like small tractor gallon tank plumbed to pump etc. Thanks

Good question.
Not recommending this but a guy at work (afternoon shift) noticed he had a hole in his fuel line to the engine. He needed to get home with the car vs leave it on the property where it might get towed or damaged.

It was a carbed vehicle. He lived about 40 miles away.

So we borrowed a 5 gallon can. rigged up a gravity feed set-up like the old Ford Model T vehicles had in the dash area, hooked up the line to the carb and gravity fed that engine
so he could get home. It took a couple of hours as the gravity feed limited the speed to
about 20 mph (he said) but he made it home with the car just fine and fixed the fuel line the following week-end.

So it is possible to run a engine with a remote fuel source. It would have been better to hook into the fuel pump inlet nipple/fitting but did not have the ability to do that at the time. The guys name was Dick Loonis and he was a heck of an engineer.

A buddy has done that on a few vehicle purchases to verify the engine truly runs.

I just suck out of a 5 gallon gas can. With a fire extinguisher handy of course.
