Tool J23709
Will be bleeding brakes on my 71 GTO in near future. Shop manual says to use this tool to hold in the pin/plunger that is located on the front of the metering valve. Apparently this is necessary to bleed the rear brakes, so I assume once that is done I remove the tool, release the pin in order to bleed the front brakes. Is that correct? This tool is only needed to bleed the rear brakes? Got a look on line at this “tool” which is nothing but a piece of sheet metal with a 90 degree bend in one end and a slot cut into the other end. You would not believe what some people are asking for this thing. I can make one in 20 minutes from scrap!

It's held in until done bleeding. Keeps the valve centered basically (while bleeding).
PS: Don't need the tool if you can improvise.

So I leave this tool in place until BOTH front and rear are bled? Made this one from an online photo from a seller who wanted $108 bucks for his.

Funny, I bled my 70 brakes last night. I pulled the rubber off so I could visually see the pin and then used a chisel as a wedge and put it between the pin and the brake booster. Left it there until I was completely done bleeding the brakes.
