Default Does anyone remember?

My wife was cleaning out some closets recently and asked me to thin down my assortment of ball caps. One of the caps came from Andy's Indians in Gainsville GA. Does anybody remember him? I think he was a staple at the Charlotte Autofair and the POCI events held in the south and southeast in the 1980s.

I rarely wear ball caps any more, I prefer my fishing hats. If anybody wants this, remind me before the next Autofair and I'll bring it with me.

I'd like to have that hat Mike.

Knew Andy [last name escapes me at the moment] and Mike Canupps pretty well back in those days. They were partners for a while.
That was when i was big into parts full time via Hemmings and SmokeSignals.

We bought sold and traded stuff back and forth.
Friendly competition , sent each other customers , helped each other out.
Good fellows
Sure do miss those days

Andy usually showed up at Charlotte with a parts car (usually a GTO) on a rollback.
People pulling their own parts like at a salvage yard.
That was really unique.
A couple or few times it would be a restore-project instead.

They had a big clientele for fullsize stuff too.
They probably sold more BigCar stuff than anybody back then

I think one of the last times I saw him at Autofair he brought a white 68 or 69 GTO and parted it on the spot. His space wasn't too far away from mine.

I'll save the cap for you. I think you're near Asheboro, I went through there this weekend. Send me a PM with a phone number and I'll call you next time I go your way. I'm not sure if there will be an Autofair this year, especially after the NC State Fair was cancelled.

Mike

You should see the stuff that came out of my the boxes I packed when I left the dorms. I still have a "Draft Beer, not Students" plaque on about an 8 x 10 hardwood from the early 70s.

Andy Andrews. His slogan was “We rebuild excitement”. Bought much stuff for my ‘65. 2 + 2 and ‘65 GTO from him. A very class act and a good friend. Haven’t seen Andy since about 2016. I need to look him up, but seem to have lost his cell number. Does anybody have it?

He was working in Maysville I think last I heard of him. I heard he was having some health problems. I may have his number 'somewhere'. I'll try to find it.

I bought a lot of stuff from him- Andy's Indians. His prices were realistic. My other go to guy was Ronnie Gates.

I knew his full name had a ring to it - but its been so long.
Almost feel stupid reading it now.

Ronnie was another Really Great guy

I haven't seen any of these guys in over 20 years

From around 1987-1992 the Pontiac/Musclecar market was rolling and boiling.
Then it flattened out- then went soft
then stayed that way for about 10 years

All our phones used to ring off the hook and it was great.
The telephone companies made fortunes back then. haha

Andy is a good guy. Lost track of him about 5 years ago. I miss the selection of parts and the social aspect of the Autofair. Used to bend a few elbows with Andy and his gang. Again, miss those days.

I remember cutting parts of a LeMans at AutoFair years ago, that poor car got hacked up something terrible. Ronnie Gates and his wife went into the convenience store business when the market went soft. He was definitely fun to hang with. He had a Judge almost completely if not completely restored once, guy called looking for some stuff and Ronnie started parting the car out that day.

Those were the days.
Pretty wild story

It was a 70 Judge Ram3 4spd #'s car ... but it was Dark Green. (either Verdoro or Pepper)
Told him not to go back with Green (he was going to sell it when finished)
But he did paint it Green.
Back then, you almost couldn't give away a green car - it had to be cheap or ultra rare.

He was looking for All The Money.
Seems like he never even got a call on it.

So then he says he's going to paint it Silver.
Told him OrbitO - Red - or Atoll Blue
He paints it Silver.

About the same thing again - little to no action

After about 2 months being Silver, he parted it out.
That's how different things were back then.

It parted out very quickly though
