Default ls1 or ls2 in a 1970 gto??

Anyone out there used a ls1 or ls2 in your gto? Was it a ez swap? What problems did you have? what trans did you use? How did it all fit?

go here: www.ls1tech.com

Biggest issue will be the oil pan. You either have to buy a swap specific pan, cut the crossmember or modify a stock pan.

All else is will require moderate fabricating skills.

I'd go with an LS-None...a big inch Pontiac!

There IS a forum for non-Pontiac engines in Pontiacs. Best to ask there.

That being said, '70 GTO is the KING of muscle cars. Why mess with success? I'm sure you could find an old SS396 lying around somewhere. Carve that up instead!

Installing a LSX isn't carving it up.

Since I do not have the original engine, and this car will be drivin everywhere, a new gto engine would look and perform great under the hood. 15 to 20 mph also. Dont get me wrong, I dont like putting a non-pontiac engine in there, but it is still out of a gto.

Moving this thread to the 'Non Pontiac Motors in Pontiacs' forum.

I'm doing the same thing to my '64 Tempest, installing a lightweight all-aluminum fuel injected gas-sipping powerhouse.

The only possible way that an LS engine can ruin a Pontiac is if you dropped the engine on the roof.

After doing a swap you will never want to sell it because driving it will be so much fun! Besides, swaps are easily reversible.
