This is not my area of expertise by any means, but I do recall reading about this in one of the coffee-table-like GTO books. I'll check my stack and see if I can find it.

I have not seen one in person, but yes, it is possible for a very early production build.

I dont believe that to be true. I believe the 69 stripe was used on D98 rally Stripe cars but not the judge. As I remember in the early 80's you could still order the 69 stripes but they were listed as a 70 lemans stripe. I also had a very early build date judge[aug 69] and it had the 70 stripes and was original paint. I guess ya never know !!

The stripe option on GTO's, LeMans and GT-37 were the same as '69 Judge stripes. There was a pic of a '70 GTO in another thread several months (maybe a year?) that refered to this. Don't remember what the thread was about.
Eyebrow stripes were Judge only in '70. In '71 there were 2 different eyebrow stripes. Judge (3 color) and non Judge (2 color).

Paul Zazarrine's GTO Buyer's Guide photo. I remember seeing a post about this too and someone had a picture of their red '70 with this stripe.

That Humbler commercial car had the stripe if memory serves me correct, of course that doesn't mean it was a regular production. I did have a 70 Tempest ordered through my family dealership; tan with white/red/black 69 Judge stripe, probably that D98 code King mentioned. And of course the 70 GT-37's.
But back to the original question, I have never seen a 70 Judge that way. At least that I considered a production item. |

Uhh...well, I guess it could have had it's own possibility. But very few mental patients ordered new Judges in 1970. Most of them probably ordered in 1972 and later years.
IF you wanted one that way, here is the possibility: Order 70 Judge with stripe delete notation on sales order. Also check box for option 422 Vinyl Stripes (69 sword stripe). Then cross your fingers and hope for the best. |

As SlowGTO stated.....in the GTO Restoration Guide by Paul Zazarine and Chuck Roberts...you could order a 1970 Judge with the '69 Judge Stripe Package.

I knew you could get the sword stripe on a 70 GTO (I owned the Blue one above- PHS- option 422). But does the Restoration Guide really say it was available on a 70 Judge as well- or is that a confusion of terms ?
Gosh Steve, wish I had a Ram Air car with the Tiger Button next to it. That Sh|t ROCKS ! Anybody have a documented D.O.E. car ? Ronnie G. in SC parted one out that had it (dash pull and vacuum pods were all that was left). It was a YS/13 car ! |

Ram4king you are correct Tiger button was only available with non-ram air cars. Now someone will post a pic of the prototype that shows both. But it could only be had as stated above.
A misnomer for the VOE exhaust system is that it created an open exhaust condition when activated, when all it did was to move the baffles to create the throatier and louder exhaust note of the High performance engines. A very cool option personally saw an NOS set up in Dennis Kirbans place back when he was selling GTO stuff

Go look at that commercial, it has both on it. I have no idea of the nature of that car, production or prototype but it's cool non the less.
And I pre apologize if your post was in reference to the commercial, was hard to tell. Last edited by Steve Hoog; 09-12-2005 at 01:40 PM. |

Yeh.....well - my post was totally in reference to the commercial. I saw both dash pulls, and Heather Locklears mother! I thought it was ultra super Cool !
Gates said the sysytem he had was of no use without the special designed mufflers. I would have bought it just for the look - but first caller took it 2 days before I even knew he had it. (early 90'ish) IF they would reproduce the system or one similar - I'd put it on my Judge regardless of originality issues. How about a cable operated unit that pulls open some of these Mr.Gasket type exhaust dump flapper thing-a-ma-jigs ? That would be a "truer" open exhaust variable. I could dig it. Where's my dang Shovel .... |

Ram4king,
This on the bottom of my '70 Judges' build sheet. I thought you said one couldn't do this? |

: BVZ slaps a big high 5 to Ransom , and tosses him a cold one! :
I had no doubts that deletion was possible, but no actual documented proof to substantiate, so I let that one drift. If I had ordered a new Judge it would have been stripe/decal delete, or heat gunned off. (sleeper with a spoiler) Some salespeople are just lazy or were uninformed. Also if your sales manager says no when you ask him a question, that's what you tell your customer - I guess. Never Say Never. The term "as far as I/we know at this time" is much less controversial and leaves a little room for the rest of the world to fit in the picture. |
