These aren't just sealed to the mirror housing like the later ones with that flexible plastic - is the mirror just glued/silicon to a backing plate?
Some of the silvering has come off so I'd like to get a replacement on there if possible. The housing is in nice shape. Is there an easy way to get this old mirror off?

Its not even glued. Its just held in by the housing.

I did an early little short on it when I first started my channel. I very gently worked around the housing with like a jeweler's screwdriver. Tried to trick that I saw somewhere with aluminum foil. Which was ineffective. It might have worked on a mirror with less silvering missing than mine.

Ive since grabbed another whole mirror that was in better shape at a swap meet, but Ive been too lazy to install it.

Hmm, guess I'll try using a small tool like that - I suppose it doesn't matter if it breaks or not but I'd better buy a replacement glass first and make sure it will be an exact fit.

I was mostly just looking for content playing around with youtube there. The alternative is they make a mirror finish silver spraypaint that people have also reported working.

If you cant find another glass, and get the glass out without breaking it (which is very doable by the way, just take your time) You might try spraying the back with the mirror paint. Maybe at least buy yourself some time.
