Yes, the front was painted later with another batch of primer, same brand and so on, just another can, we think that maybe the first can of primer was frozen during transport... we are talking Norway here you know, it can be cold

Oh it as a leaking rope seal and I want to change it with a new one from BOP.

It is no big deal, a buddy will come for the weekend to give me a hand, we will also mount the convertible, so if everything goes as planned it will be up and running in the end of next week.

Has anyone tried some sort of leak stop ? the leak is minimal and I am really not up to taking the engine out now, yes it looks like it comes from the felpro rope seal.

Hi Espen, Rear main seal leaks are common with Pontiacs. BOP Seals are said to fix the problem, but like you said, it's a lot of work.

I never replaced a rope seal with an aftermarket rubber seal. Have you tried one?

No but I have one the bench, I just do not know if I can justyfie the work for a couple of oil drops..

So will the oil sealer in a bottle do the trick on a rope seal ?

Back in 2009 when my '72 spun the #3 rod bearing I bought the BOP Seal. I still have a leak back there, but I don't know if the rebuilder followed directions when he installed it. I would still recommend it over the original seal, plus I would recommend the new one piece pan gasket that they and other people sell.

If it doesn't leak, it's not a Pontiac!

Espen, How do you survive with those work pits in the floor. If I was there I'd be falling into them all the time and would spend more time in the hospital then the garage.

The car looks great, sorry you had to do it twice.

Ohh I guess we are used to them, most garages have them, way cheaper than a lift
