Exactly. I can understand some criticism because it’s not the 100 point perfect resto but in the same breath they are not the more desirable high hp cars. The important thing is they are finally getting DONE. Rust fixed, paint, suspension, drivetrains, interiors. No one else has done this yet and that’s exciting to me. Hats off to GMG for making it happen, finally.

So, what did you guys think of the final product? Not sure about those red PMD caps. There was unaddressed pitting on the subframe and suspension. The jamb gap looked too wide on the door they were messing with. Noticed a blemish in the red car's paint at the body line. For being touted as concours and for that money...

I'm a huge fan of the show but it is a reality show. Most of it is either scripted or culled into an interesting hour. So what if the cars weren't really "discovered"? A bunch of guys who like cars restored them. I can't think of a better thing to watch than guys restoring cars and seeming to usually have fun. It gets me back into the garage.

I don't think it's ever a bad thing to demand integrity in our hobby. These people let us down.

Honestly that whole deal is a joke. Those cars weren't restored correctly at all. I can't even begin to start and I have not even seen them in person. Red oxide floors, WRONG, raised letter tires,WRONG,hurst shifter,WRONG,clear window cranks,WRONG, HORRIBLE gaps on both cars, installing and drilling mouldings on a painted car rather than drilling and fitting things like that before paint. Red primer und e r the paint for God's sake! The list goes on and on. On a side note. Did anyone else notice in one of the shots that the black bandit trans am was still in the shop???? Thought that car was sold and delivered!!!! All smoke and mirrors my friends.

Oh and BTW The guy that sold them the firebirds who frequently is on the yenko site said yesterday that he called them right after he bought the birds on eBay and pitched the idea to them! Now he says he has something else to sell them. He previously did a deal with them also on the supposed 427 vette that was FOUND in a barn for 25k. I really like this show when it first came on and I still enjoy the show if you take out the reality but cmon, really. It's become a joke now!

No mention of the red center lug nuts and center caps Don? What about the core support fillers?

Its great the cars got restored finally.
But definitely not concours.
60 days for 2 heavy resto's was quite an accomplishment for ANY shop, but why put such a prominent pair of cars like this through those parameters ? ? ?

I posted this on FGF thread.
Just quick things i caught without benefit of DVR / Rewind.

BOTH cars came with WIRE WHEEL HUBCAPS and Whitewall Radial Tires.
They used 1968 Hubcaps with 1970 Raised White Letters
and R2's with N/A Red Nuts and 1970 Red Caps with 1970 Raised White Letters
That was a real boat rocker to me on what should have been faithful restorations.

BOTH came with Rear Antennas - i didn't see any antennas.

Hardtop came with Hood Tach and Wood Wheel - i didn't see those.
Don't remember seeing Wheel Opening Moldings on Hardtop - it came with them.
If anyone can review show again and confirm ?

Another FGF member mentioned the Pancake chrome breather and chrome valve covers on the Hardtop.

Cars need some more faithful research and parts sourcing - and a bit more massaging.

All in all - they are restored.

I didn't understand the numbers at all.
Only 200k+ profit margin on a 650k deal with a 70k Buy-In ?
Math insinuates it took over 300k to do the pair ?

The following belongs here IMO
EDIT: the following below w my pix also on this lobby thread re: same OP subject http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=751863&page=8

Imagine my surprise today when opening my Concours d'Elegance of Texas program to see the center spread was the Gas Monkeys and these OP Firebirds.

Viewing the Firebirds in person was interesting. They looked better than I'd expected them to coming from Monkeys For TV show. As to the actual "correctness" of all parts, pieces, coatings, etc. on these I'm no expert...so continued chum for the Shark Tank is greatly possible.

Owner was there also, and I kind of felt bad for him as, there were several groups of show goers and fellow exhibitors within earshot during the day "commenting" about these Firebirds. Perhaps the "comments" were inspired by the program center spread still alluding to these cars as "barn finds" and more of the previously described here hype.

Will post some of photos I've taken of them here @ a later time...

I took blind photo shots w camera @ Rr wheel openings of tailpipe area of both cars.

It was said by other exhibitors that the owner was the gentleman in the straw cowboy hat.

Wow! Looks like the red car has that rare 4WD option. Bet it received the Camaro small block front springs because they figured an OHC6 is about as heavy as a 327 Chevy. And white lettered tires are wrong for both cars. Interesting how they spent the money to get Goodyear bias-plies, but the wrong ones! White lettered tires weren't available on Pontiacs for another 2-1/2 years after these cars were made.

Is it a big deal? Well, yes it is. These are supposed to be for a museum, and when it's in a museum, being historic cars, these items should have been researched.

Imagine seeing a restored 1973 SD-455 Trans Am, car #1, sitting in a museum, wearing Firestone Wide Oval redlines. Or a 1967 Corvette, the last one made, with a set of 1978 Corvette Pace Car slotted rims on it.
UR Welcome Mike. Following also for all of the PYrs here's FYI.

And, to be fair, I must point out that this show and cars are on the golf course, so many appear @ odd angles & less than a level stance...as you can see below.

Looks to be a busy schedule for me this week; so I'm gonna dump these OP pix taken for all to decipher here. Enjoy!
