Default Battery dimmensions, '73 gto owners

Pulled the battery from my moms car and the GTO fired right up with some gas in the carb. So I need to buy a battery but theirs no battery box in there.

Could anyone get me some approx dimensions for the battery, and/or battery box?

Also, is the battery box/tray from the '73 LeMans the same as with the gto? Probably should buy one.

Thanks!

'73-'77 Lemans, Grand Prix will work, nobody offers a re-pop though. I may be able to come up with another used one if you can't find one?

I had 2 battery tray left NOS , & last year I sold both of them for $ 65.00 each, no one makes them & even the used ones are going for big bucks. Also the battery trays for the LeMans are the same. The one for the Grand Prix is different , but can be used if you have nothing else.

I'm thinking if its fairly simple I may be able to cab a simple one for now at least just to keep the battery from jumping out. If worst comes to worst I may see if you can find one. Happen to have any pictures of a battery box from those years? I'd like to pick up a battery tomorrow so approx dimensions would be awesome.

Thanks!

Should take the same Group 24 size battery that was commonly used for most American V8 cars built during that time frame:https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart...ttery/28275656

Group 24 battery with top posts is what I use. Fits perfectly. Here's one at Autozone, which also shows dimensions: http://www.autozone.com/batteries-st...64356_908277_0

Here's a picture of what they look like! I have several N.O.S. one's and there is even two different style's which I didn't know till last year! I don't have any used right now, but like I said I can probably come up with one?

Thanks for the battery size guys! Exactly what I needed to know?

What would your price be for a batter box/tray?

Thanks!

You say there 2 different trays, can you tell me what the difference is as the parts books only show 1 & I worked in dealers fro 33 years & didn't see any difference in the 73 A-body Pontiac battery trays. Now the ones fro the Buick's & Olds & Chevy's are different but the 73 Pontiac A-body shows only 1 . ?? Please show me the difference if you will , I'd like to know the difference's. Thanks

Here are picture's of the two different style tray's and the one I pulled from one of my '74 Sport Coupe's! I had never seen the one without all the hole's until I bought a couple N.O.S. one's and then pulled the original tray from my '74? Not sure if there were two supplier's or if GM made a change at some point? Tracto-man I will let you know on the used tray.

Lyn, is the place for the hold down rod in a different spot on the one with holes than the other one?
(or just camera angle)

I've only seen the version with all of the holes prior to Lyn's pics.

I measured my original 1974 side terminal Delco R89. It is 10-3/16" L x 6-3/4" W x 8" H. (Using a tape measure)
The height does not include the caps.
Official group 24 dimensions includes the caps,.
Group 24: 10.30 L x 6.80 W x 8.90 H
