How do I tell if it was a customer order or dealer ordered lot stock car by looking at the PHS? I remember reading about how to tell but it has gotten away from me.
Usually on bottom right is an Identification No.
(it's also on the top)

It will start with a 'P' if dealer/customer order.
It will start with a 'Z' if zone ordered.
(zone order will usually have a dealer # of 991 or something like it)

Looks like PGAxxxxxx, with the 2nd letter the plant code, 3rd the financing option.

To clarify; the first letter of the invoice number prefix being a P means the car was ordered by a dealer but it doesn't distinguish between if the dealer ordered the car for his inventory or if it was ordered specifically for a customer order.

The third letter indicates the financing method of the dealer not the actual customer of the car. Dealers had the option of financing their inventory of cars with GMAC or they could arrange their own financing with a local bank etc.

Code is ZBA on my PHS. Looks like it was a Zone ordered car. Someone did some nice work with the order form. Does anybody know how this was done? It would be a cool job sitting at a desk ordering loaded GTO convertibles all day! LOL! I guess you would have to order some LeMans four doors, a few Firebirds, and after lunch order a few Grand Prixs and Bonnevilles too. I wonder if my car was a Zone Reps demo? Any insight on this subject?

I looked into the exhaust extension situation and was surprised that I had 25 PHS's with that option (out of almost 750) and more surprised that 17 of 25 were on cars with automatic transmissions. One thing I did notice is all 25 were from February 69 or earlier, this might be a coincidence but having none of the 25 in the second 6 months of the year indicates that the option might have been cancelled midyear.

So what are the chances of this? The first two earliest cars on the Ram Air Registry, both black, both currently owned by guys originally from Newfoundland , Canada, both on eBay at the same time...I think his is getting more bids than mine because of the shinier paint

I like yours better, has more patina to it. The other one is also a nice car but the body was over filled and block sanded so its lost the "hollows" that give a car that original steel feel.

Both cars look great! Personally, I'd prefer yours because I love that survivor look over restored look. On one hand I hope you'll the car for what you want on eBay, on the other hand I hope it's still available later this summer as I will be in a better place to be a serious buyer. GLWS!

Well, That would be impossible as I am selling it for about 2/3rds of what I have in it. Gimme a deposit Jim and I will keep it for you til summer...
